Red Bull Butter Cup Snowboarding Competition

This Saturday Red Bull is hosting a Snowboarding Butter Competition in front of City Hall. Check the link above to see details.

This event has been held at Holiday Valley the past 2 years. I’m sure this will make for a cool event being held in the city.

This will be going on as part of the Powder Keg Festival.

I’ll be out there taking photos. Anyone going to check this out as well?

Friend of mine works for Red Bull and will be Managing the event. He said that the best time to stop by will be 6pm-9pm.

I’ll be there pretty much the whole time taking photos. I ended up getting full Press release of the photos taken and access.

It was a good event 2 years ago, this past year they didnt have good weather, it rained.

Heres a photos from 2 years ago.

I was texting with him today about this.

I rode in this… Super unorganized… Thought the judging was biased as well.

LOL Who were the judges? I didnt see anyone really watching.
-To many people were standing in the way.
-Some photographers thought they owned the place and set up tripods with flashes on them and snowboarders were running into them.
-People need to understand snowboarders need more room incase they come off a feature wrong.
-I found out they double booked the features and Buffalo got the shittier of the 2 sets.
-They definitely could have used more snow!
-The drop in looked retarded.
-They needed more lighting for the event (maybe 2 construction light setups)
-It was freezing as all hell!

^^^ lol was not expecting much from this.

See it could have been a really good setup. Problems they had were said above.

If they would have brought more snow in, had enough snow to make a drop in of pure snow, set up the butter boxes higher so people can see what is being done. If they didnt double book the features, they would have had better features. (no Picnic tables, now taller boxes/rounded ones) They were pretty cheese setups.

But with it being the first ever held in the city…it wasnt too bad. I think next year it could be much better if they plan accordingly. (2 end dump loads of snow/ 50 tons)

Like everything having to do with this winter, sounds like more fail.

pics?

I stopped by. I was surprised at how small the drop in and features were. They seemed almost skateboard sized features, which isn’t really conducive to snowboarding.

I’m not surprised by the negativity in this thread. Instead of focusing on SOMETHING semi-interesting happening, they just write it off, and probably sat at home and did NOTHING instead. Cool lives, bros.

I was down there with a group of people for the Powder Keg Festival and it seemed like the whole event fell victim to the weather. Which is odd because having it snow made it way better IMO. I originally wanted to stay for the Red Bull competition but it just seemed so meh, so we left for Allentown instead.

Hopefully they realize some of the shortcomings for next year and make improvements. I know I’ll be there next year, though.

I havent had the time to edit many photos and post them up yet. I will be working on the majority tonight.

Heres what the setup looked like.

The drop in was more than enough, it was just a stupid kink at the bottom. I know the riders werent liking it.

I had high hopes but saw them building it on the news and saw how cheesy the drop in ramp was.

They showed them building that on the news and definitly didn’t look like anything too much. I wasn’t expecting some type of X-Games setup but if they were hyping up Red Bull and these “pro” riders, I was hoping they would have brought something a little more to the area and booked it right to draw a crowd over to it.

Looks like something I would have built in my backyard when I was 15.
