removing rods from pistons

How do I take the rods off a set of old Chevy 283 pistons?

I tried beating on the dowel thing that goes thru the piston on the side with a hammer with no luck.

theres clips on both sides holding the wrist pin together… atleast thats what held mine in lol

I dont see clips on these, I just looked at them again.

Aren’t these pressed in? Usually the end of the connecting rod is heated up and the wrist pin is pressed in while its hot then the rod cools holding the pin in.
I could be wrong

Looks like they might be pressed in actually.

So theres no way to bash these fuckers apart without a press?

Heat and press , prolly just wrecked the rods so buy a new set

I just want to remove the rods from the pistons so I can scrap the steel and aluminum separately.

I only got them for the purpose of scrapping them along with an intake and carb from the same motor.

You do realize that those old chevy parts are getting harder to find and you probably could have sold them for more then scrap value if you didn’t destroy them already.

I tore apart the carb already and broke a few studs off the intake (carb studs) because I didnt really give a fuck about them but didnt break up the pistons yet.

These parts are shit, left outside and rusty and Id rather get quick money than sit on them.

283’s are junk and nobody needs junk pistons for them anyway.

I needed 283 pistons. thanks…

I tried air hammering them apart with no luck and just said fuck it and brought them down to Predel’s with a bunch of other metal I had.

how much did ya get for them? I have an LS1 alum block thats scrap and bottom end. ill sell ya to scrap if you want another project. can press out the pins with my torch and press if you want

I just threw them in with a load of other shit I had and got $42 for the whole load I had in the truck. Some aluminum, some brass and the rest ‘tin’.

I dont know what solid aluminum is paying, I just brought some sheet aluminum today and it was 50 cents a pound.

Mike if your just going to throw that away I’ll give you 40 bucks for it when I come get the catch can. I’m sure you won’t get more then that in scrap since you won’t be able to separate the bore sleeves from the block without turning it into a puddle of aluminum and wasting a whole buck of oxygen and acetylene in the process.

I was going to strip the block down and see if it can be honed out and use it for a project.

make a coffee table woody!!

one more thing to trip on at the shop! lool

Waiiiit… you mean for the home! STEFF WOULD LOVE IT!!! GOOD IDEA!

Wait. You mean you actually do make it home sometimes?

Sometimes,… put it this way. My father mows my lawn for me… more so because he is bored and likes the 2.5 hrs of alone time beer in hand on a cub cadet, but also because if it got mow’d by me when I found time to it would look like a jungle.

Just mow random paths and make a shining style bush maze!
