Ok. Newer cars have a LATCH system in place for car seats. I have a 1998 Honda Accord and it is not equipped with this system, but the 2002 Accord has it. I know it’s a long shot, but does anyone know if I could buy the 2002 LATCH system and bolt it into my car?
There should be 4 hooks that bolt in by the seatbelts. And 3 hooks that go by the package tray or back of the seat. The body style of these cars was the same from 98-02 so I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. But the Honda dealer wasn’t able to give me a definite answer.
I would call a different Honda dealership.
When I was at Don Allen, Chevrolet had a “retro-kit” of some sort available to owners through the service department. It was even at a discount, since it was a safety issue.
Also, try looking at the bottom of the package tray and see if you have the “nuts” welded to the bottom side. If it’s not present then having the bolts with the hook will only be a slight help, but if you buy the parts you should be able to make the kit work in an older version of the same car.
Good idea. Maybe I’ll just buy all the 2002 parts and go from there. I only need the lower anchors for now. I have about a year to figure out the tether part of the LATCH system.
I’m sure you already know, but be sure to get the car seat with the detachable part that can go right on the stroller so you don’t have to wake the baby!
No luck. They didn’t even have a part number for the lower anchors. You can buy the tether anchors for $15 each. I’ll have to look for a wrecked one and pull everything out of it.
We have friends with 2 cars and 1 car seat, too. The parent that has the kid takes the car with the car seat. They said it was easier to switch the adult from one car to another than the kid.
Have you been able to look at how they are mounted yet (lower anchors)? my folks have a 00 Accord, I could probably pop the seat out next time I see my Dad (at least once over the next two weeks)… if it helps
