RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

I agree with what you are saying Beck, but these were still his choices…there are certainly no winners in this situation, and it sucks all around…

Don’t shoot heroin.

Snort it!

Dude was awesome in everything, the wife and I watched the 2nd hunger games the night before he was found dead :frowning:

It’s easy to cast judgement on someone for their actions, but the truth is, nobody really understands the addiction other than the person who is addicted. It certainly is a tragedy, but I have seen way too many people who “don’t feel bad for him” because of the way he died. I wouldn’t feel as bad for him if he shot up a school and took himself out as well. Nobody deserves to die, especially this way, but damn people should have a little respect for the guy.

I kinda disagree. Everyone deserves to die and they do one way or another. PSH was a great actor and pretty overlooked IMO. However I really have no emotional attachment to him, so it’s hard for me to feel sympathy regardless of his cause of death. It’s also hard to fathom how someone with millions of dollars, could get caught up in something so low rent like heroin.

He battled drug use and alcohol abuse since an early age, it wasn’t something that just sprung up. Getting all the money probably escalated the situation. I have no emotional connection to him either. TBH, I only ever saw him in The Big Lebowski. I guess what I’m saying is that there are too many ignorant people talking on the subject making stupid comments.

“Saying someone has an addiction is just making an excuse for a sign of weakness…” - This is one comment I have seen on it and seems to be people’s general response.

I think the only thing that really bothers me is that when a ‘regular’ junky OD’s their a scumbag lowlife and nobody really cares, but when someone high profile such as Hoffman passes away, everyone thinks its such a tragedy, shame, tortured soul, misunderstood, etc. Give me a break.

I think the difference here is that Hoffman wasn’t a “scumbag lowlife”, but someone who actually contributed to society and gave to others.

These people ARE scumbags:

http://wivb.com/2014/02/04/call-leads-police-to-three-arrests/

A police call to a home in Lancaster resulted in an investigation Tuesday morning. Police responded to Hess Place on a call about an overdose, and ended up making three arrests.

It appears two men and a woman were taken into custody at the scene. It appears a toddler was in the home at the time of the incident.

There is no word on the condition of the person who the original call was made about. Officials are not confirming the reported overdose.

Overlooked? How? As in a best actor Oscar and three additional nominations in the past 7 years?

Heroin used over the course of a large period of time, actually does less damage to your body than Alcohol or Tobacco. It’s just a lot more lethal.

I’m not defending the guy. However, unless you’ve been addicted to something…you have no idea what it does to you or your life. There are plenty of people whom are smarter, richer and better people than me, who are addicted to drugs.

Not a whole lot of people would say HEY, that new Phillip Seymour Hoffman movie looks great. Some of his stuff was also not really mainstream. I think publically people may not give him the respect he deserved.

My point, is the media perception. Someone non-famous could have been a voulenteer, done great things, etcccccc… but if they die with a needle in their arm, ‘scumbag lowlife.’

This dude, a talented actor and accomplished individual in the PUBLIC eye was also caught dead with a needle in his arm. What made him a great guy besides being a good actor and ‘touching’ people with his ability to be in front of a camera? I mean shit, he left behind 3 kids that will be left to deal with this. Great dad.

meh.

Good thing I didn’t make it.

And lol @ the gun control meme. Spot on.

Problem is, you’d never hear about this guy.

im with beck 100% on this one
