Road Bike

I am looking for a bike. It has been years since I have road anything. My last bike was stolen and I never replaced it as I had other things to concentrate my time and energy on. Something in the ball park of 54cm would be appropriate as I am 5’10".

I am not looking to win any races here, I mainly want to hook a child carrier to the back and hit the trails along the lake and local parks. I also do not want a piece of shit that needs loads of work. My budget is flexible but I think that around $500 would be appropriate for what I am trying to do.

Got my road bike for $259 and am super impressed. Broke my shoulder so haven’t been able to ride it much as of late but was happy with them. Cheap, decent bikes that are for the people looking to get into riding.

Is this comparable?

I have read that the 105 or ultegra are the way to go… Is this really going to matter to me at the low level that I am using this for? Also the weight is not listed, what does your come in at?

I have the 1.0 version of that bike. People who know about the bikes say its made of better grade aluminum that some of the higher end ones are made of.

I would say maybe…15-20lbs for the Windsor but I am not 100% sure. I know nothing about road bikes, i just got into it this year since I hate running and was looking for something that was cheap but still could ride a bit and see how I like it. If I stay into it, I may sell it next year and get a upgraded one that is a bit lighter maybe. I have been happy with it so far tho.

They only available there in Xsmall for $1k, I have a medium which is around a 54/56cm I am trying to sell. Open to offers

I have the same bike as well, it’s a great entry level cruising around the neighborhood bike. If you’re going to be doing some longer 30+mi rides normally you might want to throw some more cash out.

The only thing I think I will upgrade on my bike is the seat for longer rides. When I was doing 8-10 miles on it, it was a little sore.

Do you have riding shorts with pads? I had the same problem and I bought some from Berts, set me back about $75, but they were so worth it.

I stopped at one place with a guy I work with and shorts were like $250 which were more than my bike cost. I may have to check some other places and look back into that.

Man up, $34, no one cares you’re wearing spandex, you look twice as stupid in baggy shorts.

At the same time, you don’t want to be the guy who rides 5 miles and gets all suited up in spandex.

I have a salsa la cruz cycle cross bike set up for the road and love it. Frame could be a little bigger for me but I still love it. Cycle cross bikes are a good way to go cause they are strong. I went with the salsa because the surly cross check has thumb shifters on the top of handles and the salsa has them at the brake levers which I prefer. There are plenty of things to consider with a bike, might not hurt to try out a few different set ups.

Tighter padded shorts I could do… those are a little… odd

Highly recommend buying a used road bike that someone is dumping because they either don’t ride anymore or are upgrading. You can get a lot of bike for a fraction of msrp. Craigslist, roadbikereview.com classifieds, etc.

+1 on that. You can find bikes that cost 1500$ for less than half with maybe only 100 miles on them before people decided they hated riding.

You can get padded shorts that look like normal shorts. $60-$100ish

If 8-10 miles is making you sore there is an issue. Bike fittment, seat, or most probable is that your body just isn’t used to it.
