Take a v8 to a machine shop and then a 4g63. Even if your rebuilding a stock 4g63 machining costs a shit load.
Just saying.

i gurantee my motor cost a lot more than a lot of built v8’s lol.
i still dont get this thread wtf
to the AWD vs RWD debate, i would MUCH rather have a RWD vehicle than AWD, this shit sucks
how do you get bored builing up and racing a v8 vs 4 cyl? Bored as in your not in the garage as much replacing parts and fixing shit so your forced to sit on the couch with a beer and sandwich watching tv.
What does a longblock like that cost? Id say something like “im sure mine cost more” but I don’t have a clue what they go for.
I will say you are not getting a good lsx stroker longblock for under 8-10k to start though.
if you use stock rods and crank, and dont have to have a block bored / hot tanked ect, its dirt cheap to build a small block chevy, well compared to most things.
I could comfortably sell the motor in my truck for 1200 minus carb and not feel too bad about the loss im taking on it. so add the set of heads and intake it needs to build another 125 hp, and I could still sell a motor with 400+ hp thats still sellable in the 2000$ range
well there are a bunch of variations that can come into play because there are countless rod/piston combos that are out there.
if someone were to build my exact motor with the specs i have in it, youre close to 9k. thats just a bare longblock.
that is however having someone build it for you, if you were to do it yourself im sure it would be MUCH cheaper, but fuck that lol. you know how it goes haha
Im pretty sure I’ve met you before, selling stuff, but if I havent. I owe you a beer/ coffee something.
Stand up guy right here.

its cheaper with the old school stuff.
block brand new is like 1000$ rolling assembly all forged is like 2000 - 2500
heads are like 1500$, add rockers, cam intake pushrods, you are looking at another 600ish
a complete ready to run 650 hp motor will probabaly run you in the range of 7000 - 9000$ all said n done, fully dressed.

Building them is fun and working on your car is fun beats sitting around. But in my opinion drag racing has become boring.
You see the same shit over and over, unless it’s bracket racing which then makes it more interesting to race for.
more reference. fully built motor, fully dressed, with warrenty to your door for just over 4,000$ (you could build alot more with this set up if you swapped cams ect.
i guess this just depends on the person. i have a lot of fun even going to watch everyone on here take their cars and beat the piss out of them
Uh if you really want to have this debate
LQ9 long block $1600
Big fucking cam + springs $800
Carb + intake manifold + ignition system $1500
AJE Kmember $300
Headers $500
Junkyard Th400 + big stall
8.8 rear with whatever gears
Throw this in a gutted fox body(like the one in the vid) and run mid-low 10s NA hell some people even get into the 9s
Wack it with a 150 shot
Move on
Fox bodys are one of the cheapest platforms to build its been around forever and used parts are everywhere.
Yup.
I agree with this. Karter just seen a 4cylinder lift the wheels
it didnt lift the wheels. it left like a turtle, it didnt take off like a cannon until past 60’ (i only watched the first pass)

4000lbs with the wheels high up. no your sewing machine will never do this.

onyx, can we get this closed and an American Muscle vs Imports thread started in the drama section?
And can I get my name changed to Karter or back to Just Karter ?
This thread has aids.
Psphinx 9k is not even close to a lot in the world of high $$$ lsx motors. So your statement might apply to old school stuff but modern to modern no way.
Shit a lot of the high hp NA setups are 30k+
My silly lil 418 that you are going to smoke(LOL) new was 12k as a longblock
Why? Arch Angel sounds SOOOO cool!
It is neat to do something different. That 4cyl fox was bad ass. So far my SHO engine build is quite a bit cheaper than what you guys are talking about but I doubt it will make huge power either so it is a trade off + its heavy for its size/power output at 600lbs dressed
$1200 in pistons,
~$500 in valves
machine work,
$500 gaskets,
1500 in fueling and engine management
3K built TH400 + big stall
under 3K for turbo goodies
$1700 cage
hmmm guess there is no way I am keeping this project under 10K oops hopefully it makes more than 300whp. Something different and something fun most definitely a money pit.
I want your monies.
This same argument comes up every year.
Who cares says the guy with a broken DSM with well over 10K into it and it’s still broke. Shit, I’ve spent almost over $5,000 in transmissions over the years. Lol!
LOL I bought my motor used. Also I would like to ad that I no longer have monies. I just have parts and a roller haha

I say who cares what people have into their cars anyhow.
