Can you force a doctor to perform an abortion if it violates his conscience?
This deal sounds a little fishy to me. Is it possible the couple knew this is how the JP would respond, and they went there anyway?
Why do these people feel the need to make an example of this man? Was he truly wrong? Did he tell them they are going to hell? He just said he doesn’t want to do it. What is wrong with that?
It isn’t clear that marrying people is an obligation for a Justice of the Peace under the law. The law may simply grant him the ability to marry people. This would be similar to pastors. In most states, the law grants them the ability to marry people, but they are free to choose the couples they marry - they have no obligation to do so.
