I found what I needed . . .
cant you just get some ski’s and trim to length?
Sure I could, and I have plenty of those, but I’d like to use something that will look more professional and finished.
fair enough. glws!
You can buy mine… but it would be 285$
Thanks, but I’m looking for something considerably cheaper.
Cheapies are going for $40-$60 on craigslist, but none within 100 of here is the problem. It would cost me that much in gas to go pick them up. . . ugh. . .
What about kids skis?
What about a ski shop? they might have used ones or older ones. Tell them what you are trying to do any they might cut you a deal on ones that have been sitting around for a while.
Thought about that, I’m a little concerned about the weight I’m going to be putting on them. The bike + me will be in the 200+ range, way above what that size kid ski was designed for. Also, not much meat for the binding screws to bite with that load (don’t really want to thru bolt and ptex over, although that is an option). Also, they will be a bit on the narrow side for the mounts I’m designing.
Stopped at a few of them already, still out of my budget for a project. They’ll be selling used/rentals at the end of the year, but I need it on the snow this year (test and tune starts next month).
If I can’t find anything, I’ll bite the bullet and cut down some of the old ski’s I’ve been saving to build chairs/benches.
I’m curious as to the overall concept. What will drive it? Modify the rear to have a snow track and have two skis up front? Basically a snowmobile with pedals?
It will be strictly gravity driven.
You can buy conversion kits, but they are incredibly expensive ($600). I raided the scrap bin and work and will fab my own mounts to the fork and rear arm.
It’ll look similar to this:
Would they let you use that thing at HV? (With a leash of cousrse)
I bet this is going to end…
up with a hospital visit. Looks fun though
As far as I know, you cannot use these at HV. Leashes aren’t really an issue, it’ll tip over if you fall off, and Im not sure you would want a 25lb bike attached to you in case of a crash. (The only reason a bicycle keeps moving is because of the gyroscopic effect of the spinning wheels-no wheels here). I’ll post pictures once mine is built.
Lots of good info available here - like a list of approved ski areas. . . http://www.ski-bike.org/
I’ve used one before, its much easier and more controlled than you would think. If you’re a good rider and understand the dynamics of skiing, is a ton of fun.
Anyway . . . Does anyone have any Blades they want to get rid of?
This looks like an absolute blast.
was kind of thinking of getting some new ones…i have some red, white and blue salmon ski blades…they’re wider and would probably be perfect for your proj…only problem is I would want about $60 for them considering i haven’t bought new ones yet…i will find them and post pics if interested
I may be interested, post up some pictures and the model number. If it is what I am looking for, I could justify $50.
sounds good man…ill get some picks for you as soon as i get out of work
That is so awesome lol. Good luck with your search! make a thread too
