snowboard stance. Does anyone ride a forward stance anymore?

I agree with whats in bold.

I strongly disagree with whats in pink. Your opinion is just that, an opinion. I had a more narrow stance and widened it recently with great results. I also ride 21 up front b/c it is comfy for me.

Also, people who ride slalom and whatnot have crazy forward angles, so you’re saying they are better of skiing? I think not. That setup suits itself to certain riders and types of riding.

IMHO

damn, some of you ride some REALLY aggressive lead foot angles.

I don’t think I have ever gone above 15*

Well… not like I’m certified to mount ski equipment/board equipment or anything… :mamoru:

All your bolding and highlighting was opinion as well…

Just hope people take in the right advice.

I was at about 18/6 but now I live in Houston. My snowboard is mounted on my wall in my kitchen. lol

I love the forward stance, I started off duck, doing more park and whatnot. Then I discovered I was way more into free riding, got a 168 board and went forward. Been loving it since ~ 2003 ?

my knees are pretty beat from skateboarding and hockey my whole life so I feel everything more-so than normal, and it def puts stress on my back knee (right knee, ride regular).

15 -6 here, 20.5" stance. 5’11"

I really can’t tell if you’re trying being a dick or not.

You are a certified ski tech? Where at? I’ve worked at a ski shop for 6 years now.

We usually set new boarder at ~15,6 with shoulder width stance, depending on the rider.

And no my highlighting was for clarity to convey my point.

Are you saying your advice is right and i’m way off?

Not saying that your opinion was right or wrong.

You work at a ski shop, I work at a board shop.

I set new boarders to 15, -6. You set them 15, +6.

Talk to your reps, it was also written in transworld.
“A positive rear foot does nothing for you but make you turn your leading shoulder away from the board.”

And it makes sense. At that point, you’re fighting the board. No kid is gate racing or snowboarding bumps, and it certainly isn’t 1997 anymore. Boards just aren’t designed for that anymore.

Really isn’t rocket science. You’re not way off, just a little.

Let’s go riding. Wednesday or Thursday I’m game.

15/-6 crew signing in. Not sure what stance I’m running right now.

lol word, I’m not a ski tech or anything and you def sound like you know your shit. I’ve been riding for years and no matter what anyone tells me, it’s all about what I think feels right.

Anyways, yeah I’d love to ride with some new people sometime. I am originally from the northeast and to be perfectly honest with you I don’t like to ride out here…because the mountains back home were WAYY better. I’ve been once this year… compared to 50+ times in years past.

shoot me a pm sometime when your planning on going, i’ll see what I can do.

EDIT: and yeah I meant 15,-6 in my previous post.

Aight man, lol.

I hate it here too… But it’s all we got.

I’ve riden both +6 and -6 on my rear foot.

And personally the -6 does “tweak” the knee more. Considering I don’t have an ACL, and ride with a Donjoy brace, I can tell what’s putting more twisting stress on my knee just by the amount of pain that is in it during and after riding.

I DO however like the control and feel better with the -6 than the +6.

But like has been said, setups are COMPLETELY a personal preferance. It took me a LONG time to get everything setup the way I like it, and I still mess with it probably every other time out.

+3/0

truth. Working at the ski shop back home got me free tickets to all the northeast mountains. Oh the good 'ol days.

Truth!

i’ve been riding with a forward stance for like 10 or 11 years now, maybe i should try something else?

in regards to the wide stance; while I think it’s dumb, it’s mostly for jibbers and those who ride rails. i dont really see anyone cruising around with a 25" stance.

We got the new Burton catalog in saturday and I just got a chance to thumb through it. jesus christ. not only is every company loving the rocker that they all talked shit about the year it came out, but burton made it pretty damn complicated. different orientation of rockers throughout the length? concave sidewalls? should be interesting.

I just hope I can still go to on-snow with this stupid recession, so I can ride this stuff (doubt it though, boss man just went to utah so i highly doubt I’m going. Unless I can catch a ride/room with someone!)!!one

I agree. However, I see so many kids that have their bindings so close together and it seems so ridiculous. Shoulder width for sure.

I had my bindings set the same for years and I just recently went about an inch wider and damn it made all the difference in the world.

wrd we usually measure from the floor to the back of the knee. pretty accurate as well

I think I’m 15, -15… feels comfy to me…

I think mine is like 20 something, then ~5 or so. I haven’t been out on it yet this year, I bought a new pair of skis that kick ass.
