i agree with 1st v-dub.
we held the colts a lot closer than most of the other 10 teams that fell to them this year.
and with all of the bitching about the players, ben/maddox etc. i think the baulk of the blame last night has to go to the coaches. some of the play choices made no sense, and it seemed they once again were trying to stray from what had worked the most this season.
yes, you have to adjust your plays to what the other teams defense is bringing, but if manning was getting flustered when the blitzes were coming, why not keep with it? on side kick to start the 2nd half and it leads to 7 for them?
cowher said in the post game that he wanted to give a spark to the team. guess what, on side kick is not the way to do it. do something that works, like give the ball to el and have him throw a bomb…
the one player i will say i’ve been disappointed with is porter. hasn’t lived up to anything this season. and seeing all of his shit talking before and during the game last night and him not back it up didin’t help his case.
and oh yeah, this is all whitey’s fault…i mean payton’s.
the D did almost exactly what i said they needed to do for the steelers to have a chance. I said if they give up 24 or less they could win. 26 is close. the O sucked again. You gotta put up 28 to beat the colts on any given sunday. you can’t FG to death a team like them.
as for the remaining schedule, dont we play da bears? They are on a hot streak and we are like frozen.
peyton throws BBs.
the play calling last nite and this year in general has been suspect.
2 yards a carry.
i’m happy it didn’t get ran up further then that bc the colts give you the feeling that they can score whenever they want. not quite as high octane as teh old rams but still… and shit are they fast on both sides, how often were they n the backfield. good textbook tackles and hits. the steelers were just outclassed, the colts are just better.
Great we (steelers for the anal retentive that have no argument and fall back on this) lost and Ben was at the helm. Still could have been a hell of a lot worse. The ciny / colt game was 27 (somthing) going into the half.
Plain and simple the steelers didn’t have thier shit together and got beat by the better team last night. Cower even said that in the press confrence after the game.
do you guys (in general not directed at you) even watch the full press confrences or do you just watch the cut up ones form the news?
Cower stated everything including the onside kick was just somthing TRYING to get some momentum and get them an extra posession. He also stated that it bothered him that their rushing game hasn;t been up to par.
You can say what you want about cower, I think he is for the most part a decent coach and reconizes what his problems are.
Funny thing is if that onside kick would have worked and it would have ended up in a touch down drive NO ONE would be bitching…
I do think they need to stop running the first two downs then try to throw on the 3rd. The 3rd down conversions are pathedic and are way too predictable.
thanks for that anlysis mel kiper. the cincy/colts game was just that, the cincy/colts game… it has nothing to do with steelers/colts game.
the steelers still are a running team even thou we have a so called “star” QB…when you are a running team and you can’t run…you are gonna LOSE!!!..
And as far as the steelers “not having their shit together”… isn’t that the excuse everytime we lose?..did it ever occur to anyone that maybe we did have our shit together and the other team blew it up? every week there is another team of PROFESSIONALS across the field from us doin the same thing we are tryin to. How do you not have ur shit together when you know what you are gonna face and have a week to prepare? There is no explanation or excuse other than, the colts are a better team and out played the steelers cause they are better.
the on side kick: that was cowhers last shot to use that in that circumstance. its the second time he used it when he was a underdog and losing. now its expected to some degree. Good try, great call if would have worked. Some may argue field position but with peyton on the other side, that don’e mean shit. you gotta keep him off the field.
Since October second every game of their has been high scoring.
Oct 2 @Tennessee Won 31-10
Oct 9 @San Francisco Won 28-3
Oct 17 St. Louis Won 45-28
Oct 23 @Houston Won 38-20
Nov 7 @New England Won 40-21
Nov 13 Houston Won 31-17
Nov 20 @Cincinnati Won 45-37
Oct 2 @Tennessee Won 31-10 Margin Of Victory = 21
Oct 9 @San Francisco Won 28-3 MOV= 25
Oct 17 St. Louis Won 45-28 MOV = 17
Oct 23 @Houston Won 38-20 MOV = 18
Nov 7 @New England Won 40-21 MOV = 19
Nov 13 Houston Won 31-17 MOV = 14
Nov 20 @Cincinnati Won 45-37 MOV = 8
AVG MOV for these 7 games, not counting the Steelers = 17.43
We lost by 19 Points.
Even though the Colts didnt put up as many points on the board against Pitt, the margin of victory was still pretty close to the games you posted. (except Cincy + Houston) And is comparable with their average MOV.
thats what i ment ,
but dont give our d too much credit either, the colts coasted the 4th quarter to save players or they would have surley scored 4 or more tds easy.
take away the easy 3 at the end of the half and the easy 7 after the onside kick, the defense only gave up 16. At first i thought the onside kick was ok, now i’m thinking it was dumb, you handcuff ur defense by doing that. onside kick to start off a half is a bad idea. what they coulda done is kicked off, hold them, score a td then use the onside kick. thinking back to SBXXX the onside kick was after a score ,not at the second half kick off.
17 of 26 for 133? plus one of those went for like 40… thats some neil o’donnell numbers there, thats fucking terrible. without maddox would have been the time to try a play with randel el. after a while they had to expect it when tommy was in but with our “star” back thats would definetly be a play to keep the defense honest.
