I went through this a few months ago when I was looking to buy on Black Friday. Pretty much you’re always going to see someone with a horror story with any laptop you look at. I personally like HP’s but when the time came I couldn’t find a better deal than my Acer Aspire, similar to the one you posted but with a core-i5 processor for $500. Bought a warranty through Square Trade for 3 years so I think getting a warranty no matter what laptop you decide would be a good idea. And square trade has some great deals on warranties.
I concur, the only other PC laptop I’d think I’d consider is a HP Envy line.
They are better built than any other PC out there. I beat the PISS out of mine and use it for almost 10 hours a day. Still is like new. Keyboard keys are perfect, not flimsy, great feel. The mouse is still perfect. Travels really well. Battery is great. Seriously just a really well built laptop. They are one of the only ones I’ve had where I thought it was actually built to last.

I’m not sure how the ideapad compares to the thinkpad, but this seems like a great deal: http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/46987/lenovo.com-lenovo-ideapad-y560-laptop-core-i3380m-2.53ghz-4gb-ddr3-500gb-hdd-15.6-1366x768-led-1gb-radeon-hd-5730-wifi-n-bluetooth-6cell-battery-win-7-prem
Ideapad is consumer line, so they are Polycarbonate plastic garbage not going to last like the Thinkpad’s.
I wouldn’t consider Lenevo’s consumer based thinkpad edge or ideapad near the same level as their business based thinkpad’s. I’d like comparing a ford ranger to a ford f350.
Agreed, although they are nice.

X201i or T410
The X201i is a bit higher priced in the classes but you are getting a “pro grade” laptop.
I’m using a T400 now, I’ve owned probably every brand of laptop there is and this is by FAR my most favorite.
It the beginning, I felt just the same Willy. It seemed bulky and too “standard” compared to my previous curvy, gadget loaded, buttons everywhere laptops. It grows on you, and now I love the business only look, I don’t have stupid ass buttons that i’ll never use, just whats needed.
Price was expensive compared to other companies with the same specs, but I do not regret it one bit. I’ve had this for 3 years, not one problem. Keyboard isn’t worn anywhere, you can’t see where i rest my palms when typing or where i use the finger pad. My work’s 1 year old toughbook is in worse condition, i can already see a worn spot in the finger pad.
I know I may have to fork over a bit more, but I will only buy thinkpad’s from now on, they are WELL worth every extra penny.
The ThinkPads we have at work are a pain in the ass, I’ve been through 2 of them and like every other time the battery dies they won’t boot, you turn it on and just a couple green lights light up and nothing happen. PITA.
