So you have 700 max to spend on a laptop, what do you buy?

Preferably cheaper, but right around 700 is the max I want to spend right now.

I am on it all the time, constantly out of my office, battery life of 3 hours should be achievable.

I was looking at a Vaio and it came recommended, if I had 2x the budget I’d by a mac, but its not in the books right now, and my HP DV2000 seems to have a screen flicker problem that I noticed 3 weeks ago (it stopped until yesterday night, for about 30 seconds… naturally, i’m preparing for the worst)

I’ll have CS5 on it, some web applications, tons of powerpoints, movies, music, etc…

Not going to be a gaming pc, but it must have HDMI and wireless display options would be cool.

Must be reliable, this HP has been relatively good, but my old vaio is nearly 10 years old, and still works like a charm.

GO go go…

Thanks

If it was me I’d figure out what size laptop I wanted then stalk slickdeals.net for a week or two and get a $1000+ laptop for $700.

EX:

How long ago did you buy the HP? Might be able to get it fixed.

The new line of Toshiba Portege’s are pretty slick.

ThinkPad!!! Probably not gonna happen for $700 though. They’re one of the best I’ve had for sure.

Bought it in Sept 2008 i think? I found a new motherboard for like 90 dollars… but i just put 60 into battery and power cord…

I know i’ll replace the motherboard and the HD will go or something silly… or it wont be the motherboard…

We’ll see how this month goes with work. ugh. I do have a bday coming up though

Thinkpad. They never break, ever. There are a few models with decent specs that you could pick up for $700.

I would probably just run something cheap like this…

Dell Inspiron Laptop: Intel Core i3-370M 2.4Ghz CPU, 3GB DDR3, 320GB HD, 15.6" LCD, Webcam, WiFi N, Win 7 Prem

Macbook - Craigslist. I bought my gf a 3 month old Macbook unibody last year for $500… (make sure it’s still under Applecare though if you buy from craigslist - as much as I trust people it’s always nice with a warranty).

I’m sure there are great used deals out there, but I’m not in the market to buy a used laptop.

And since Macbooks are 1300+ they’re out…

thoughts? 4g ram, webcam, 500gig hard drive, hdmi, dvd drive…

I’m just researching now.

Acers fucking suck…Almost all the ones I’ve worked on have had these weird hardware problems. Their support site is awful. I would not get one of these.

EDIT

Gimme dat HP

gimma dat hp?

I think it may just be the motherboard, if thats the case its like 100 bucks online…

Other than that its been a rock solid laptop… we’ll see…

I want something as small and sexy as a macbook, with that battery life too…

Vaio’s look better every day… its just going to be 850 bucks for the one that I want.

Picture a big fat southerner saying it. Vaios have had a bad reputation for years…

My last vaio was bulletproof… i’ll post up when the HP is for sale… lol

Viao’s suck. Imo get an asus or msi laptop. They are much easier to fix when they do break, and don’t break as often. You can even overclock some of the msi ones.

OK, have a backup laptop to use for now… so I;'m not in such a bind anymore… also, My broken HP works fine when its plugged into my tv…? So my guess is the lcd or something is causing the flicker… Any ideas?

Those are what I’ve narrowed down to from my bestbuy run today. Seem like fair prices per specs

I would get the best dell i could get from Dell Outlet with the 3 year @Home warranty since there are amazing bargains to be had on there.

Still saying to go with a Lenovo ThinkPad

I looked at them, they seem bulky and per price, they seem to be a little overpriced compared to other pcs with better stats… yes no?
