Software to convert different video formats...

This is a question for the computer savvy folks out there. I need a method to convert DVD (.vob) to something a lot more manageable such as mpeg or wmv. It’s been awhile since I had the need to do this so I don’t know what current software is out there for this task. My new camcorder saves straight to .vob and that is not a good video format for sharing over the interweb. I would prefer to get it to .wmv in one step…

thanks

i would also like to know if there is a good program to compress and convert vob spanned files into one mpeg / wmv format

ill look around tonight and see what i can find… when i rip dvd’s on my xbox it writes the actual dvd format… i’ll keep you posted if i find anything

DivX? I think it might be what you are looking for??? Maybe??? Here is a link just in case…

Input Video in Any Format
Dr. DivX can encode video from numerous popular video formats including (but not limited to):

DivX 3, 4, 5 (.divx, .div, .avi)
MPEG-1 (.mpg, .mpe, .mpeg, .m1v, .dat)
MPEG-2 (.vob, .ts, .m2v)
MPEG-4 (.mp4)
DV (.dv, .avi)
All AVI files (.avi)
WMV (.wmv)
AVS (AviSynth)

flaskmpeg will pretty much do anything you could ever imagine with a .vob… but its a very advanced level program in my opinion. I also have trouble getting good results with it due to improperly set framerate conversion and audio sync.

spanned vob’s > unsync’d audio IMO!

precisely why I am in search of an alternative. :shaggy: :mullet:

I will try it!

Dr. Divx seems pretty solid for what I need. Although I am using the trial version so I don’t know what limitations are there. Unless I overlooked it (or its not there in the trial) I don’t see any way to encode a different filetype. It only does Divx. But from there I can convert it a million other ways.

how about to took a 10m switch by accident to my xbox and tried to transfer like 100meg of movies :kekegay: wasn’t going to work.

i’ll play with it tonight.

humm

audio seems to always be out of sync when i encode iwth divx

you ever deal with the audio being embedded into the video vob? i haven’t burnt too many discs… never saw embedded audio, don’t know how to get it to sync right.
