Someone explain this?

WTF exactly happened?

They pumped the contents out of it and didn’t vent it to allow air to replace the contents that were removed.

As the inside approached zero absolute pressure, the earths atmospheric pressure caused a collapse that propagated QUICKLY.

Basically, that was caused by less than ~14.7 PSI of pressure.

Yep. Atmospheric pressure crushed it.

lol same thing happened in my department like 10 years ago. The 1000 hp oxygen compressor kept running due to a glitch in the program and accidentally sucked a 5000 gallon steel storage tank to such a low pressure that it pop-canned. Then the same thing happened at a different site the next day. I guess the department head at the time fucking lost it when he found out.
