SR20DET Flywheel bolts interchangeability *pics*

The SR has these 12-point short-head bolts on the flywheel.

I don’t plan to use them again and I know they can be replaced with a
6-point tall-head bolt from another Nissan vehicle. I’m just not sure
which vehicle. I can’t remember if its Altima or Maxima or what year.

Anyone?

12-point head bolt from SR20DET, and the mystrey bolt.

This shouldnt be a mystery !! measure the length and pitch of the existing bolts and buy new ones !! they dont need to be from another car, they can be from Canadian tire. oh yes
they’re most likely metric, find a nut that fits the ones you took of the flywheel and take that nut to the store in search for new bolts.

You don’t say?

It would take me like 2 sec to call up Nissan and place an order for
these bols from a Nissan vehicle then to go to CT to not only not
find mathing bolts but then have to go to other specialty shops just
to find metric items.

i would not suggest doing this.

unless u dont care for ur legs

flywheels are dangerous

CT bolts are certainly not usable in that application… metals have different strengths and the CT bolts are SHIT in comparision… i wouldnt trust those to build a shed .

Gonad ask your buddie Ed.Guy thats his pic you have posted there.

He did his reserch like a good little boy does and found what he needed.

Yea, he sent me the pic (along with the clutch he got) but forgot what car
it came off. So I made this post.

He later foudn out its from a 1989 Nissan Maxima 5-spd but I
guess it’s always good to get a second opinion. :dunno:

take the bolts to brafasco or spanar. they will get what you need.

and like doba said, it should be quite simple to figure out the bolts you need by measuring threads and pitch.

you’ll probably want a grade 10 bolt to be safe.

the strongest bolt you can find isn’t always the right bolt for the job. different grade bolts have different clamping forces for different torque specifications, so just get the same grade of bolt that it says on the head.

Last I remembered the FSM says to torque them to 90+ foot pounds.

The flywheel bolts arent a high torque bolts.

Ed, I hope you are 100% sure about them being 1989 Maxima 5-spd bolts
because I wlil be ordering them tomorrow. :squint:

There in his car right now… VTEC!

i have also heard of using maxima bolts.

Nope not 100%, 'cause there are two 5 speed motors, no? a single cam and a dual cam?

And the only reason I’m saying they are from that car is because that’s what I found in my msg history 6+ months ago.

DO NOT use CT bolts or the like for your flywheel. They won’t be the right strength and probably won’t have the little notches on the back of the head to dig into the flywheel a bit to stop them from backing out. Get the bolts from Nissan. The 12 points are from a 300zx. Not sure about the 6 point ones. I just bought a 12 point socket for 3 dollars and used the 300zx bolts.

Nissan wants $8/bolt for the 12pt 300zx and $3.25/bolt for the 1989 Maxima.

Your Point?

No point…just saying that I want those Maxima bolts if only Ed knew
specifics (DOHC, SOHC, VTEC, etc.)

Just call them and ask if the part number is diff between the dohc and sohc bolts, I really doubt they are. But what it all really comes down to is…

YOUR OLD BOLTS ARE PERFECTLY FINE!!!

Well that will depend on how much of it gets chewed up while I’m taking
them out.
