Hats off to you Mr Elon Musk.
Maybe he can make more money from selling batteries than cars. http://www.azcentral.com/story/money/business/2014/05/07/tesla-break-ground-one-two-battery-factory-sites/8827817/
Yeah that battery factory is a HUGE risk but, sometimes big playoffs come with big risks.
Like the Stanley Cup playoffs? This is good news. My quest for ultimate global domination can now begin.
This is awesome. I wish more CEOs of big businesses would do things like this, I think we would be a lot further ahead.
I wish I could have a beer with Elon Musk and just pick his brain about random crap. Dude is brilliant.
The stationary energy storage is going to be a massive industry. I think they are positioned very well to provide for that. I wonder when would be a good time t look buy stock?
Even the title to his post is great
it is impossible for Tesla to build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis
It’s also impossible for every car company working together to address the “carbon crisis.” There’s just so much output that even the global auto industry isn’t going to make a dent. I applaud his spirit though, even if I think he’s playing to those people who think they can save the word with a car purchase.

My friend’s girlfriend got to interview him a little while back. She had no real idea who he was, lol.
Lucky! That’s usually how it goes though.
I bought TSLA last summer and I plan to hang on to it for some time. Bought some more in my IRA last month when it dipped down below 180. If it goes crazy maybe that ten grand will fund my retirement someday.
Cool deal.
guy is a rock star… plain and simple.
we should have a whole section of the forum dedicated to Tesla
We were talking about this at work today…
He’s investing with Panasonic in a dual-venture to build the world’s largest Li-Ion battery plant (which will be larger/more capacity than all the existing ones combined)… The claim was that he’s building it to support Tesla… we’re thinking this release is to get others in the game obviously… and then be the primary supplier of the batteries to them.
Couple guys from BMW Canada sent me this link today: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/06/13/bmw-tesla-motors-idUSWEB00OCX20140613
BMW and Tesla in talks
Speaking of Elon…
Deep pockets should definitely help RiverBend, as long as they don’t nix the deal
I don’t think stationary will be lithium-ion based, but who knows. Aquion (see really vague, laughable graph) and Ambri come to mind for alternatives. Enerdel is trying to do lithium-ion for storage, but I don’t think they’ve made much progress outside of a battery farm in Oregon. Johnson Controls bought out their partnership with SAFT so they could enter the stationary market, but… whatever.
What ever happened to GE’s Molten Salt battery?
Another question remains even if it is lithium-ion based. What does the cell look like? Is it cylindrical? Is it prismatic pouch? Is it prismatic spiral? I can say that 1) these all matter and 2) the manufacturing processes are quite different.
If volumetric and gravimetric energy density aren’t a priority, lithium-ion becomes less attractive.
Thank you Elon for helping oil prices drop to under $85 per barrel. The bad part is even Elon doesn’t have enough money to fight oil giants, they can drop prices making his cars obsolete. Of course then the price will shoot up again.
yea the 20,000 cars the sold in the US is really making an impact
It may be a tiny impact but believe me OPEC certainly doesn’t look forward to an electric car break through. In reality Elon will probably get stomped out by OPEC but I like the romantic notion of what could happen.
Do you actually think this is the reason oil prices are at $85? Seriously?
