Martha Cooper was a photo-journalist living in New York City when she first began documenting the origins of B-boy (short for break-boys) and hip hop culture. While other New Yorkers at the time saw this movement as a trite, uninspired or even offensive fad, Martha found a new form of expressing art. Through her camera lens we recount the infancy of hip-hop culture, from the alleys and subways of New York to the masses beyond the boroughs.

Guns, bitches and bling were never part of the 4 elements of hip hop and they never will be. ~unknown

lol @ guns bitches and bling.

thats commerical AMERICAN Rap music.
I HATE when people confuse Rap with Hiphop.
Basically if you ever heard it on the radio its probably not Hip Hop.
If you look to like australlia, its about being SICK at writing, not about all your beats sounding the same (wayne) or still having your Nike boots.

that’s really dope.

i’m really sick of people complaining about todays music though, i FEEL YOU GUYS ENTIRELY but remember, its a cycle, and those kids knocked people the fuck out of their way when they came through and paved hiphop, and now the kids are going to do the same exact thing when it comes to todays rap. it’s just the way it is. i grew up on “real” hiphop and what not, but that’s just the way it is…
