The HP/Torque Arms race continues......

2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty Getting Upgrade to 800 FT-LBS of Torque

Already boasting class-leading payload and towing, Ford has now increased the 2011 F-Series Super Duty’s engine output to ensure it has class-leading numbers in all areas. Originally launched with 390-hp and 735 ft-lbs of torque, Ford is upgrading the truck to deliver 400-hp and 800 ft-lbs of torque. Better yet, owners who already purchased one of the lower-output 2011 models will be able to get a free upgrade from their Ford dealer.

“These numbers are impressive, yes, but that is not why they matter,” Samardzich said. “These numbers matter because our customers say they do. The higher torque means that fleet operators, such as Florida Power & Light, can plow through deep swamps and get to downed power lines faster and more confidently. It means that oil and gas crews in the Northwest can tow up an 8,000-foot grade maintaining a steady speed and using less fuel.”

In addition, F-350 dual rear-wheel (DRW) models will get upgrades that include an increased max payload from 6,520 to 7,070 and a max fifth-wheel tow rating set at 22,600 lbs, up from 21,600 lb.

400hp/800lbs/ft out of the box is absolutely amazing, I’m really interested to see if these motors really hold up, maybe in 10-15 years I’ll be able to afford one

does it come with air conditioning?

so did they upgrade it just so they would be putting out more power/tq the the GM’s ?

yes, that would be why the title says…arms race

Better yet, owners who already purchased one of the lower-output 2011 models will be able to get a free upgrade from their Ford dealer.

new tune covers that power output. Heck they could get more than that with a good programmer.

Of course they could, but they don’t want to make more warranty work for themselves.

and they had to up the payload to beat GMs

looking forward to what cummins has to bring to the table to compete with them two

they still beat them, duramax’s engineers have already said that motor is at its highest point, there isn’t much more left in it

figured this was relevant to the discussion as well:

Me too. Cummins might just come out with a real banger that out does all this.

and the front suspension will still need rebuilt once a year

Add a roll cage for the asian------------ Goodbye camEro

My brother has a new 2011 F-250 diesel. There is such a huge difference in power compared to the 2010, it’s not even close.

It doesn’t matter what cummings comes out with, it is still stuck in a POS dodge. If they made a nice truck to go along with the motor, they may actually sell enough to not pull their parent company down the shitter with them every year.

Still stuck in a POS Ford…

How many recent years has the f-series outsold everything else? How many recent titles do GM trucks or Dodgetrucks have?

The f-series truck is by far the best truck out there right now. We drove a ton of trucks over the past few months while he was deciding on what to get and the other trucks are complete shit compared to the ford.

I’d rather be stuck in the POS ford than drive an IFS chevy that will fall apart or a dodge that will fall apart

IFS works well for what it was intended for, hell the military vehicles been using IFS for years now.

be interesting to see how long the powerstroke holds up at those levels

If anyone made a true full-sized crew cab with a full 8’ bed without IFS, I’d have bought it instead of the 'Chev in '08.

Well, let me rephrase. I could buy an International CXT. Even tho that would be baller as hell I ain’t blowing 100K for a truck.
