More and more traffic accidents are due to texting. If we want to reduce the 1.2 million traffic victims worldwide each year, we have to act. How do you convince youngsters not to text while driving? Prove them it is a very bad idea: oblige them to text while driving! See how Belgian learner drivers reacted when they were told they had to pass the mobile phone test in order to get their driver’s license.

I have an opposite view. I would encourage texting among teens if only to thin the herd.
Except in most incidents the person who wasn’t texting and gets hit is the one that is killed, just like it is with drunk drivers.

Atleast they TRY to simulate something over there, the test actually looks like fun. Not over here when you have a retired 75 year old man tell you to take a right, stop, take a left, parallel park, 3 point turn and go back to where you started. The driving test here is a joke… its putting people behind the wheel that cant walk across a court yard on a cell phone without falling down stairs or into water fountains.
Driving test should be 3 times a expensive to take. take an hours time. City drive for 20 minutes, hit the highway, back to the city and then hit the closed course for evasive maneuver driving tests.
Re-test young drivers every 2 years until they are 20. then retest every 10.
You cant change stupid. All you can do is make it hard for them to get behind the wheel.

Getting your license in Europe is much more difficult and really expensive as it should be. It also helps that kids are used to alcohol by the time they can drive, instead of in the US where a lot of kids don’t drink until 17/18 and then go crazy when they’re 21. In most places in the world getting drunk is simply NBD and not hyped up and make you super awesome and hip like here

It WILL work if you are implying people actually care to drive with a license or insurance. This is a free country no? People SHOULD be allow to drive without license or insurance, the government is simply too intrusive…:rofl

Get caught driving without a license, big fines or jail time. Driving is a privilege not a right, it’s time it gets treated as such to increase the safety on our roadways. I drive 66k a year, with the dumb shit I see on a daily basis, I’m surprised I don’t see a fatality every day. The worst part is, the people participating in these dangerous driving habits, have no idea just how close to death or killing someone else they come every day. Find someone in prison for vehicular manslaughter, more likely than not they’ll tell you they didn’t think it could happen to them.

This test is stupid though. One thing I noticed is that these tools don’t look up for 5 seconds at a time.
I, personally, will admit to texting while driving. But guess what? I f’in memorized my phone (yes, even the digital keyboard for the most part) and can usually text while only glancing down for split seconds. Not to mention I am aware of my surroundings. Say on the highway…I know the locations of all the cars around me because I’m CONSTANTLY scanning my mirrors. That’s what allows for quick lane changes where you have to ‘squeeze’. You just have to know where everyone is. If a driver is that easily distracted and forgets where crap around them is…removing texting from their environment will do NOTHING. It will be replaced my something else, say, day dreaming.

Driving and eating, drinking a McDonalds fountain drink or your favorite snapple, changing the radio station, finding a song on your iPod, texting, calling someone isn’t as hard as the media makes it seems. HOWEVER, because 6 out of 10 people are retarded…it’s a problem.
How come talking to a passenger while driving is considered ‘fine’, but talking to someone who’s not in your car (via phone call) is highly illegal? You’re still thinking of the conversation while driving…what is the difference?
Does it cause accidents? I’m sure. But people have crashed their cars while trying to kill an insect. Bad drivers will be bad drivers.
The government is just using the statistics to create new fines and create new revenue that does NOTHING to curb the results. This is almost as stupid as the tint laws which are in place for police officer safety. BS, it’s for makin money and nothing but money.
