The Rapid Move To All Electric (But Real Goal = No Personal Cars)

No mention of the range. I’m thinking for that price it’ll go under 100 miles.

I saw on Jalopnik they are saying 250 miles.

Tried ordering the lyriq today right at 4. Website immediately crashed and by 4:08 they were sold out. Getting a model Y instead.

Damn. What’s the main difference between the two? I’d think Tesla would be preferred due to more chargers?

My friend has a Model 3 and has THREE child seats in the back. He can fit his whole family in that thing with plenty of room. I imagine the Y has a bit more space.

My wife wanted the caddy for looks and something different. But the experience and frustration yesterday changed all that. Also her brother just took delivery on a Y last week and can’t stop raving about it. I agree on the charging support, although Tesla did recently announce that they’re going to start offering cross platform support at their super chargers.
Just completed the order this morning for a black on black performance, scheduled to be delivered in Nov. :slightly_smiling_face:

So if you have an electric car, do you have to go to specific charging stations?
Like a Tesla has to go to a Tesla charger but say a Chevy Volt can’t plug into a Tesla charger?

Yea. Tesla wants to change that and there are companies like Chargepoint that are trying to create a network of universal chargers.

100% needs to be universal. You want me to buy electric cars but I can’t go to any charging location like I can to fill my gas at any gas station.
Just one more reason I don’t care for electric cars at this current moment.

I think the current situation isnt bad if you own a tesla, the superchargers are pretty much everywhere now. Plus 99% of our charging will be done at home.
Any other car is probably equivalent to driving something running only on E85.

I’m the one waiting for electric cars to become practical regardless of the style of driving or trip you want to take. Until it’s fully practical to use as a single car and the ability to travel wherever I want without worrying about spending a half hour to charge somewhere along the way, it wont be for me. (That doesn’t mean it’s not for others, just not me)

I just wish Tesla had better than 1970’s Soviet build quality. The tech is there, but man, car wise they seem like a real mess. At least from my anecdotal experience with my buddies model 3.

Here’s my thing: I can’t afford to buy a new car. Never have been able to. So unless electric cars are going to be good used cars, I could not care less.

I’ll likely always buy used cars because I can get so much more car. Used electric cars seem like a real gamble though with the inevitable battery pack degradation and insane prices to replace a battery.

right? I’ve only looked at a handful up close and I’ve had mini bikes with better build quality.

I think you hit the nail on the head at least with my experience (Model 3 which I autocross none the less, No I don’t use all my battery autocrossing I simply drive the hour home and plug in. Track day different story…)

@juicedz4 Mine has been great and I think the majority are. Its the new online era of car forums where you only complain. God you should see the new 4Xe and complaints there omg I can’t even.

@Motocrossx23 @JayS While it is still early in the game Tesla’s are holding their value like crazy, I’d venture to say they will be Wrangler territory when the dust settles, too much for a used example mind as well buy new or shop something else. Now other brands seem to dip a bit lower but there is a luxury gap there that soon will be filled.

I have very little to add here. I dont really research fun stuff or covid stuff or politics anymore. I do see folks at work charging their cars for free, 8-10 hours a day. That must be nice.

I will say. Wranglers drive like complete shit. Anything over 500 miles has an insane deadband in the steering.

Driving in high winds on the highway gives you at to deal with when you have to sort of lean into it with tension on the wheel at 5-10 degrees to the left to stay straight.
Then you get a slight wind gust in the other direction or even a lack of wind and there is this WTF moment when you have to go 5-10 degrees in the opposite direction to try and avoid crushing the car in the lane next to you.

IMO thats why jeepers wave. They are just loosening up on their grip to stretch their hands when they see a someone else who knows the struggle.

I still like the looks and rent them, so I am dumb.

The turbo 4 has plenty of power to break the rear end free with a small amount of rain.

No new small engines in CA. Not even for generators.

Clown state gonna clown.

So much for charging your EV car with a generator when the power goes down for fires.
