The Rapid Move To All Electric (But Real Goal = No Personal Cars)

Flying cars in Japan!

Also “drone as a service” model sounds interesting. Who’s going to be able to afford these things initially?

Lots of new “flying cars” showing up that are all basically just scaled up quadcopters.

If these fly anything like the DJI brands and others, we are going to have a lot of freak accidents on our hands. lol They randomly just lose signal with GPS, some randomly just drop out of the sky, some people can’t operate them to save their lives. Going to be interesting.

I’d have to assume there will be a driving/flying course with hours of operation to be able to have one of these when they actually become a thing.

Curious on this one where the wheels are though. They show it going down the road in a simulation but I don’t see where their would be wheels in the one they show actually flying.

looks like the lawnmower ban is coming to NY

Well, guess this is happening sooner than I or others thought but something I figured would eventually happen.

Ill just keep mine going forever, or buy out of state.

Hell I JUST rebuilt my 1947 Ford, i think i can keep the rest going.

At the rate electric mowers/trimmers are getting better I’m sure any I buy in 2027 would be electric anyway. I already have a 40v Ryobi straight shaft string trimmer and it’s better than any 2 or 4 stroke I’ve ever used. The electric mowers I don’t feel are quite there yet but by 2027 I’m sure they will be.

Still would prefer to let capitalism take care of this instead of the government. People will switch to electric when it’s better and shouldn’t be forced to while they’re still inferior.

I repowered an early 90s troy built 7hp snow blower with a harbor freight 11hp about 10 years ago.
Some of the best money ive ever spent.

Maybe. But im skeptical.

Sure if you have a postage stamp lawn, go for it.

we use electric stuff for mowers and trimmers for a few years now that they have gotten better than the gas or corded stuff.

How long does the charge last? Wonder how it would compare verse my Stihl on my 5 acres.

I could use an electric leaf blower. I use them on job sites and as long as it goes on charge after every single use, I almost always seem to grab it with a dead battery.

If there are mandates for electric lawn equipment, then I believe the next logical step is to remove any/all town/city ordinances that limit the length of lawns. Fewer cuts means less gas or electricity required.

exactly. I have two large lots I maintain, 5 and 2 acres.

Plus what’s the lifespan of a battery anything? Ive been using my cub string trimmer since 2004 without issue.

yeah if you have an acreage you cant use electric stuff. We have alarge lot (130 x 180 at the deepest) and the electric stuff is fine. we do need to have 2 batteries though. one wont do the whole property.

I honestly couldn’t tell you because it will do my yard several times without being charged and I know it’s losing charge sitting between uses. Average size Williamsville lawn with a lot of stuff to trim around.

By 2027 I fully expect my mowing will be done entirely by robots much the way my vacuuming has been for the past year. 3 years ago we got our first robo vac and it was a dumb one that just bounced around until it ran low on battery and then tried to find the home base. It would run daily but we’d still supplement with the regular vacuum. Now we have a Roborock S5. It’s got laser mapping and gets every inch of our house daily running an efficient room by room grid. It can finish the job on a single charge, but even if it couldn’t it’s smart enough to run back to the base, recharge, and then re-start right where it left off. We pretty much never use the regular vacuum now.

Mower’s aren’t there yet. You still need to bury a guide wire and their AI is pretty shitty. It won’t be long and I expect you’ll be able to map out your yard the same way the vacuum mapped out my house, no wires needed, and add boundaries and no go zones right in the app. I’m sure that will happen before 2027.

I’d 100% buy a robot lawn mower. Split it with a few neighbors so it runs 24/7. Any investment is best utilized with constant use. Even if it can only do partial areas of a lawn, it can run all day and night. Tied into the internet with a moisture sensor it could also cut around the weather.

would be nice if it cut well.

Ive logged 130 hours mowing this year between 3 properties.

The robo ones cut really well because they cut more often so the grass never gets very long. Plus since they’re basically silent you can have them cut at night to mess with your neighbor. “His lawn is always mowed but I never SEE him mow!”

But will it cut my perfect diagonal lines.
