I have a queston?? In the end of that movie. They show jack in that picture from early 19somthing, i forget, But did that mean he was a ghost?
No he was possessed by that guys spirit that resides there at the resort. Also that place was built on an indian burial ground, not a great idea, hence the evilness and possible trigger of the previous murders. Scary shit.
But then why was he in a picture from 20 years earlyer
This is what’s truly going on: in the 40’s, there was an explosion in the boiler room at the Overlook hotel. Everyone in the building died, and it was reconstructed several years later. The ghosts of the people who died in the hotel were still haunting the place, however, and they were particularly bothered by people who stayed during the “off-season.” In 1970, a man received the same job Jack Torrance has in the movie and was persuaded by the ghosts to kill his family and himself. When Jack has the job, he is also persuaded by the ghosts to kill his son and wife… at least that’s what the audience is supposed to think. What the ghosts REALLY want is Jack, who was one of the ghosts killed by the boiler room explosion that somehow managed to escape from the hotel. How do you know this for sure? Well, the picture in the Gold Room that is shown at the very end of the film depicts a 4th July ball in 1921, and Jack is in the picture (which explains the strange feelings of deja vu which he has throughout the movie). The ghosts aren’t exactly trying to get rid of Jack’s family, they just want him back so he can play with them… forever… and ever… and ever.

Its history repeating itself…same effect 20 years before that?
