It’s just irritating when someone thinks they are mr know it all. You know what you use and what you have worked with, and noone has seen it all not even the almighty know it all computer god fshowcars.

my boss knows exactly how I feel about my job. it’s just a paycheck, but I come in and do my work with a smile on my face. I can have both the work attitude and home attitude. I do not work because I like the work, I work so my wife can stay home and raise our kids.

thanks alot !!!

Work is work, Home is home. there is nothing wrong with having two seperate mind sets.

life is more effiecient when you have 1 mindset and do what you love for your job, or so I hear, I have yet to come to that utopia

sorry but that is bullshit, if you can’t seperate work from personal life it ends up causing problems in one spectrum or both.

it sucks that it’s true, but it is…

I’m typing on my Dell Latitude D610… He’s typing on the HP :booty:

Rebates are gone… Still more than $800

i am 24/7 on the job… shit i just called right now since something broke!

:hsdance:

to me it sounds like you have a problem with me, rather than me sounding like a know it all… i konw exactly why a p4 is physically superior to a celeron… and i have a wide variety of real-life situations across numerous os’s using both chips on/off the same network… so all i wanted to do is have that kid explain himself… i wouldn’t ever suggest getting a celeron, esp with what darkstar is going to use a computer for.

my boss knows i like my job, that’s why he gives me raises and i have no work schedule. it works both ways.

and SNS - it’s not bullshit… i’m ‘oncall’ just like you… but it’s not as intensive, yet it’s 24/7 … if i’m on vacation around the world and we have issues, my company is going to fly me home to fix them and fly me back for vacation when it’s cool… so that’s why there is no seperation from work and home… plus working iwth computers, you have constant exposure to them, and being that i hate being on aim and playing games… i play with work shit.

I don’t have a problem with you

I will not take a job that is 24/7. I already spend 37.5 hours a week away from my kids and will spend no more than that(well on occation, if something breaks and they need me I will work OT, but it’s rare). Once you have kids and a family your attitude for work will change. It pisses me off that I spend more time with the fucks I work with than my own family, but this is life right now and I have make a living so my wife can stay home with the kids.

It must suck to be married to your job, i would hate that. It’s just not for me. If my work called me while I was on vacation and wanted me to leave, i would quit right then. Of course my boss feel the same way as me and thinks every employee needs personal time and will only call us in if the problem is huge, like the entire network is down. If half of the pc’s and servers work, we can get by till monday or whenever I get back to fix it.

i hear ya… i’m young without a wife… so i’m sure that changes my outlook… but at this point, why wouldn’t i be 100% all out for my job? makes me look good and will put me well off when i’m an old man like you :moon:

we also work for different companies… i accepted the pressure of being full time… but when i don’t feel like working 40 hours a week, and we have no issues, i don’t have to… i have no start time, no end, and no lunch… so it’s nice for me at this point…

:offtopic:

p4 > celeron in any realm of discussion

Ok, now i never said a p4 wasn’t better than a celeron… if i recall correctly, i said that in building computers that i have always found the p4’s work better… but darkstar said he’d only be using his computer for internet surfing (i think) and in that case, i have never found a problem with a celeron, nor an athlon xp… for basic computing and internet surfing, through experience, not numbers, i haven’t had one problem w/ speed or reliability w/ a celeron.

and as far as him originally having 800 to deal with… now, i might be wrong, but if i were to say i have 800 to build a computer with, to me that means, “i have 800 max to use on a computer, but if i can get away with a decent computer for less than that, i wanna save as much money as i can”… that’s the way i looked at it, b/c i’m poor and i always try to save moeny… but maybe i was wrong… maybe he wanted to get the best thing he could for 800… in that case, i have no doubt that i’d buy a P4… when i’ve built w/ them i’ve loved them, but the customer’s bill has always been higher than i would have been wanting to spend…

so… as far as numbers, you are right, i never showed any slick computing know-it-all… i just said from my experience, what i felt was gonna be a safe bet for the average computing person… and you ppl had to jump down my throat… I have never said celeron > p4, b/c i know way better… I love p4’s… quite frankly, i wish i would have gotten one in my laptop, but the budget only allowed for an athlon xp 2400

see that is the difference, I have a call shift with rules. Example if I sign up and my call shift is to cover the shift 7am till 7pm on sunday. They can call me any time before that and upto 1 hours after the start of the shift and say I have to come in. After that I;m free. they can;t call me in off a vacation and if I have two vacation / personal days in a week I don;t have to take a call shift.

I wasn’t calling bullshit on you, I was calling Bullshit on the fact that employers expect that for some of your jobs. ESPECAILLY if I was on vacation some where and they tried to pull me off it and then send me back? Fuck them, they can pay for my whole vacation too as in hotel rooms, retal fees, and missing out on shit that you may have had scheduled to do.

I have NEVER heard of that (not saying your place isn;t like that). Vacation is Vacation. There is no on call during vacation.

<ring> “hello?”

“Yeah, we need you to fly back and fix our network”

“Um, how about I tell you to go fuck yourself and quit? Will that solve your problems?”

wow, this thread is gettin way outta hand… been like that for a while i guess…

:lockd:

they will

depending on the serverity of the situation… they arn’t going to fly me back anywhere for a hanging email queue or firewall issue… but a NAS crash or something data / email archive related, i’d come back and hook it up and get the hell out.

on call sucks… worked a job where i was on call 24/7 was drunk on night and had to go to work in middle of party in my back yard. shit i was called out to work in the middle of sex before… sucked ass.

i’m sure they could have waited the 2 minutes it takes to finish up sex before going into work.
