hey guys, looking to borrow the tire size fitment tool that bolts onto axle hub, or an actual rim and tire to check fitment for my truck. rim needs to be 17x10 with 5.5" backspacing on a 5x4.75 bolt pattern with a 295/45/17 tire. hoping i can squeeze this in the wheel well but need to make sure before i spend 450 bucks on drag radials. let me know, thanks.
I think you’ll have a hard time finding someone using the 295s. I really like the size but it is a little odd. if you were here in Texas you could use my 295/40/18’s for comparison.
it is an odd size, but i think itd be perfect under the truck, provided they fit. the 275/40’s are really common but i think theyll be a little too small. thanks for the offer though but texas is a bit far. anyone else got anything?
not sure about that backspacing but as far as them actually fitting in the wells you should be ok, I had 275s on 9.5"s in the rear of my 1st gen with plenty of room everywhere. There was enough room that I could have actually made some minor offset changes if I wanted to and going from 275 to 295 is only roughly 3/4" difference overall. Keep in mind tho they are almost guaranteed to rub when cornering, especially the more you load it up. That is unless you have insane amounts of lateral stiffness like a triangulated 4-link with damn near zero compliance bushings like brass or delrin
^^^the truck has a 4" drop. there is about a 1/2"-3/4" gap between the wheel and frame rails, and the outside lines up perfectly with the inside of the wheelwell lip. i can roll/trim the lip if i have to. i have tractionbars on the truck with snubbers tight against the eyebolts so there isnt much movement. i do have to move the bracket for the traction bars for the ubolt on the axle though. did your truck have a drop at all with the 9.5"?
mine was a 4x4 (Typhoon clone), I forget the actual amount of drop but it was sitting right at the tires. I did roll the lips but iirc it didnt need any other mods or adjustments
you could always do a mini tub if you really want to guarantee enough room
^^^id say you only had around a 1.5" drop at the most compared to a regular pickup would be my guess if it had the stance of the typhoon. i dont have the time/want to tub it right now, just wanting to drive it. besides when it does get tubbed it would be getting the s&w backhalf kit. i think i may say f it and get the tires anyways and find a way to make it fit if it dosent.
It wasn’t built to be an exact Ty copy, it was built like a Ty as far as it was awd, power everything, leather interior, etc but it was V8 and slammed on Z06 rims. Iirc it was dropped something like 7"fr/4"rr only because the 4x4s sit about 1" higher in the front than the rear in stock form so I had to drop the front an extra couple inches just to get the front lower by like 1-2". Both front and rear were pretty much right at the tires and if I had gotten the Ty body cladding which I never did it would have been tucking all around
