Torque app on Android market (OBD2 USB app)

I was going to put this in the Android thread, but I think it is so great that it deserves its own thread.

If you aren’t familiar with what it is, this app allows you to connect to your car through your phone using a USB adapter that must be purchased separately.

I haven’t used it yet, but from all the reviews I read, it seems to be an awesome app. I will be purchasing my adapter as soon as I know it works for my car.

Anyone using this or know anything about it?

I believe JNJ was telling me about something like this the other day.

Would definitely be cool to do something with an old droid phone. Does it work without having internet access? For example, a phone without service or a tablet that is wifi only?

I believe so. They even have a wireless adapter that just plugs in and you run your phone to it that way.

I would assume if you can get the .apk file for it you wouldn’t need internet access.

i use it and have the adapter, it rocks. no need to buy gauges anymore when i can monitor every thing through my phone.

no you dont need internet access, it works via bluetooth

Have you had to use it for a check engine light yet?

yes, used it on my old saturn, my wrx, mothers sunfire and fathers equinox. checked codes and cleared them.

I always keep the adapter on my car just in case

Will this go any further than check engine light codes? On my Acura TL I’m guessing I have an internal misfire code that is not throwing a check engine light. Would this pick that code up? (I know you didnt make the app, but you seem pretty familiar with it)

Im not sure but probably not, from what i have seen it just like the regular scan tool you would buy at autozone or something. probably emailing the developer about that would be better but i should also note the i use the free version so maybe the paid one has that feature but I didnt see that in the description

I’ve had this app for almost a year now. I love it, it’s worth it just as a way to clear check engine codes. I’ve cleared codes for a bunch of people I know and it’s really convenient when I always have my phone and keep my OBD2 bluetooth adapter in my car.

The app was maybe 5 bucks and the adapter was about $30 I think from Ebay. It gives you a ton of data the only thing I didn’t like was that its widget that checks 1/8 mile and 0-60 times was way off for me. Who knows why, there’s so many variables.

I wonder If I can hook this into my indash screen.

whats the cable called thats needed to run this ?

There is no cable it works via wireless obd2 bluetooth adapter

reading > me

does this work with obd1?

edit: nevermind I fail at reading also, no it doesn’t

I’m almost positive that it doesn’t.

I downloaded the app and have it installed but will have to track down a cable to do some testing.

Just get a $30 bluetooth adapter from ebay.
