Up for sale or trade is my 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500a. I purchased this bike bone stock in the summer of 2008, I personally performed all of the customization, and didn’t cut any corners. This generation of Vulcan’s is affectionately known as “BUBF” (Butt Ugly But Fast), as it was the fastest production 1500 in the Vulcan family. As you can see this one has certainly broken the “ugly” mold!! With all of the performance modifications, this thing is VERY FAST for a cruiser!
It’s registered, insured and on the road as we speak. I’m selling it because I’m lucky to get it out once a month, and would rather have another toy to play with, or use the cash to buy a chunk of land behind me.
You won’t find a better looking 1500a in this area!!
The Good:
Painted custom metallic/pearl blue (have extra for touch up)
Custom Vance and Hines exhaust with removeable baffles. It’s loud but not screaming, unless you take the baffles out
Ears and intake tubing removed, K&N cone filters installed on carbs
California emission system removed
Coasters installed (“EGR” blockoff plates)
Re-jetted and tuned for the performance exhaust and intake
35 Watt Hi/Lo HID headlight
Additional LED linear tail light
Batwing Harley fairing (fiberglass)
Marine CD Stereo with USB and SD input
200 Watt Marine stereo amplifier
6x9 Marine speakers (This stereo CRANKS!!)
Adustable Harley FXR rear shocks
Custom/Aftermarket speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, relocated in tank shroud (Koso)
Approximately 29k miles, 1k miles since customized (I still have original speedo/ odometer to prove mileage
Leather Saddle bags
Always garaged during riding season
Always stored in a heated/dry show room off-season
Battery 2 years old, always on a maintainer
Not so Good:
Tires are at about 50% could use new tires next summer
Petcock drips very minimally when in the “on” position and parking - I have a new one for it, just haven’t installed it yet
Small scratch on the side of the tank (tough to see), could probably be clay-bared out
The side cover needs some touch-up where the key ring hits
Front brakes are a little squishy, could use a bleed and adjustment - Will be done before selling.
No joy rides or test rides until you have cash in hand. I’m happy to run it up and down the road for you to show that it runs as described.
Trades:
Please don’t contact me with a project trade, or junk. All trades need to be in good working condition to consider and meet the criteria below. I will take trades + cash on either end, depending on what you have to offer.
Ideal trades are: 4x4 ATV, Side-by-side, UTV, Enduro motorcycle (on/off road), Rider zero turn mower, 16’+ equipment/car trailer, or any combination of the above. If you have something else of similar value and it fits the theme here, feel free to let me know what you have!
I have TONS of pictures, if you would like to see something specific, let me know.
It is listed on CL right now for $4,000 or similar trade value. I am open to offers, but since I don’t need to sell it, I’m going to kill myself to take low-balls.
