tranny and rear end info

hey i have a 1994 nissan pick up and were looking at possible tranny swaps and need some info from you 240 guys

first off can you guys swap the de and e trannies? i mean can you put a de tranny on an e motor? do you just have to swap bell housings? also doe you guys know the gear ratios for you tranissions? also i need the gear ratio for your rear end.

we have been hearing roumors that you can swap all E,DE,RB and SR trannies if you use the bell housing for your motor. we just wanna see if this is true and the more info you guys have for us the better!

with 240’s, the E and DE trannies are exacly the same.
I have bolted an E tranny up to a DE many times. And the gear ratio’s are identical.

Rear end I can’t remember off hand. Someone else will have to fill that in

Andrew.

the e and de trannies are the same?? exactly the same? gear ratios and all?

they’re all FS5W71C trannies.

Even the MKII S12s have this tranny.

There are a few variations in case length though.

The S12 “C” tranny is shorter than the S13/14 “C”

and yes, AFAIK you can swap pretty much any Nissan bellhousing onto just about any Nissan tranny.

The Z series gearboxes are different though … I can’t remember if it’s a borg warner or something.

We swapped a KA bellhousing onto an old Nissan dogbox (FS5W71B) and it bolted right up. The dog box is a linkage style, but has wider gear ratios.

I’m trying to remember though … I read somewhere that truck KA blocks are different than car KA blocks, so you might have to swap bellhousings.

I’ll see if I can dig it up … I think it was on a 510 datto site.

I have no idea what rear end set up a 94 truck would have. I’m thinking it would be a 4 link, and not IRS like the 200/240s

Check the firewall tag in your truck. Where it says TRANS/AXLE will have all the info you need.

If it says RC41 (or any two digits) … that’s an R200 pumpkin. The 240 5 spd cars came with a 4.10:1 rear axle, and that’s what the 41 stands for.

If it’s a live axle truck, it will be an H series … maybe H190 or H230

Just gotta watch when you get into JDM spec parts…

The CA18DET powered S13s have a 4.363 final drive
