Tropical Vacation Spots

I’ve only been to each once so who knows? Dominican is the only place I’ve been with friendly but assertive peddlers on the resort and approaching you while you’re just sunbathing on the beach. I haven’t run into that elsewhere. What little bit of the island I saw on the drive from the airport to the resort made me have no interest in leaving the resort.

When we went to Aruba AirTran business class worked out to only be like $100 more than a coach ticket once you include the bag fees and whatnot that are waived in business class. Big seats and free drinks were worth it. It was still like $1800 round trip for two tickets so I didn’t exactly find a deal though.

Damn. Now I want to go on vacation. I need some sunshine on my balls.

try out roatan, honduras. i’m there right now and it has been a great week. awesome diving and snorkling. easy to find a quiet secluded resort or house if you want it, or you can be in the couple more populated areas of the island.

check out the homes forum in a couple of days for the first edition of “nyspeed house hunters international”

I’ll be in st. thomas soon, staying at Wyndham Sugar Bay Hotel on the east side of the island if anyone has recommendations of must do’s and chow spots.

I’m about to book the Riu Palace in Cabo for Easter week. Every time I get cold on my way into work I subconsciously navigate to travel sites all day.

I’ve been looking at a ton of cool stuff! My mom’s friend’s husband owns a travel agency, I’m going to see what stuff he’s got available as well.

I’ve been looking at realestate in the USVI online and there’s some pretty sweet places for between 70-120k, 2 bedroom one bath, perfect for a getaway or to rent out, but I have no idea how home ownership works in the US virgin islands.

The USVI would be so much better if they were actually filled with US Virgins. Ditto for the BVI.

I am not a fan of Mexico, Especially Off the resort grounds. We (wife/kids) went into the city of Cancun there were people following us etc… very uncomfortable. I’ll take the pushy (buy this…) folks of Jamica over it anytime.

+1!

They got offended when I said they are in the Caribbean. :dunno:
They don’t like to be grouped with the other crime filled islands.

Ah Mexico…

^Yeah even before reading that I had no desire to ever go to Mexico.

We have to have VP approval to travel to Mexico for work. That’s a big deal. This isn’t a bank where everyone above Janitor (and including the lead janitor) is a VP.

I know I’m going to hell for this, but…

“raped six women tourists”

“Another woman, who was also in the bungalow, was not attacked”

Can you say designated fat friend?

^^ lol.

I’d still go to the Cancun area. Been there before. Prices are dirt cheap now and hotels (nice ones) will pick you up at the airport. Just don’t wander into the shitty areas and stay near the resort.

never been in cancun proper but have been to several areas on the “mayan riviera” without any problems out and about. just be smart and don’t make yourself into a target by walking around with your stupid tourist hat and camera slung around your neck. similar experiences in cozumel and my recent trip to roatan.

Looks like the week of the 18th I can take off of work due to some maintenance downtime, I found flights to Tampa/Miami for 200 round trip on SW!!! Looking for a cruise to take that week, it would be killer!

Aruba 2005: Honeymoon. All inclusive. Nice place great beach, not much to do.

Cancun 2008: Trip “time share” NICE beach LOTS to do. My favorite part of the trip was going to Chitzen Itza, Xcaret was pretty cool snorkeling down a freshwater river into the salt water ocean.

Hawaii 2011: Big island and Kauai. We took our 18month old son… We could not get as much out of the trip as we have in the past with no children but still an amazing trip. The big island was cool, but KAUAI is breath taking, amazing ect ect. I would go back there in a heart beat!!! The others i “would go” but not my first choice.
