v. = Version - My car sucks v. blown head gasket, I’ll never drink again v. tequila night
vs. = Versus - Car vs. tree, Car1 vs. Car2
That is all.

wow that is one tough code to crack
we tried this thread already
Disagree: “v.” and “vs.” and “vs” are all abbreviations for versus. “v.s.” is “see above”.
They are so smart in the southtowns
Obviously, we’re smart down here. Most of the Northtowners can’t seem to use the abbreviations correctly.
this.
“Spell out the word versus unless you’re reporting game scores, when you would use vs.; when you’re citing legal documents, use the abbreviation v.”
http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/abbreviations.htm
‘v.’ is an industry standard prefix for software version numbering.
example. Macintosh OS X v.10.5.8
this translates to Macintosh OS X version 10.5.8
When people on here use the ‘v.’ abbreviation, they are meaning to say version, not versus. ‘vs.’ is not an acceptable abbreviation for the word version.
It makes no sense to say “I got a new car versus shiny and red”. The new car is not competing with adjectives. It does make sense to say “I got a new car - version: shiny and red”
v. is also legal world’s abbreviation for versus
in my software experience you would never say “v. 10”, you would say “v10” or “v 10” because “v.10” would be easily confused as “version 0.10”
Using the ‘vs.’ abbreviation makes ZERO sense in the context of the sentence it is used in these cases.
theblue vs. cheesecake = if I eat it all, I win.
theblue vs. new car = if I buy one, I win.
I don’t think version, I think versus.
I think we need to start writing whole words again. No more of this lol, omg, lmfao, vs., v.
I fear the world will turn into the movie Idiocracy where we will be reduced to a series of grunts for communication.
Our favorite restaurant will be Buttfuckers.
that is because you are using the abbreviation for versus, which is correct. Just because versus has multiple abbreviations, doesn’t mean that version does. I have never seen any software company us ‘vs’ as an abbreviation for version.
right:
camaro vs. honda; honda wins (versus)
camaro v. honda; honda wins (versus)
I bought a new car; v. shiny and red (version)
that’s racist! v. NY senate (version)
wrong
I bought a new car; vs. shiny and red (versus)
you’re doing it wrong vs. gas station theft (versus)
woot vs. Mr clean autodry system for $2.99 (versus)
Coolness vs this thread.
You all lose for actually arguing about this on the internet.
no they all work
you lose for arguing politics on the internet everyday
