My 1993 Villager has a Nissan V6 that sometimes loses power. When it does, it runs very rough - popping and sputtering. If the van is moving in a straight line at the time, it has maximum speed of about 35 km/h. If the wheels are turned, it hardly accelerates at all, even with the throttle wide open. If it is in neutral, then it sputters until the RPMs break about 2500-3000 then it smooths out again. None of the warning lights come on during the trouble, and the engine usually returns to normal in less than a minute and keeps on going like nothing happened. The hesitation can happen at any time, even after the engine has reached operating temperature.
I’ve tried cleaning the Mass Air Flow sensor, new plugs/cap/rotor, and even a 3-stage fuel system service at Mr. Lube. None of these steps have worked, and the frequency of these weak spells is increasing. When the engine is running right, it pulls smooth and strong all the way to 5K (auto tranny shifts then).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give me!
Can you run an ECU diag? I don’t know much about other models of Nissan’s but if you can throw you ECU into diag mode and see if any codes come back, you may need to pull it into a shop and have them read the codes for you. Even though you don’t see a check engine light the ECU may have logged sensor troubles or something that might lead you in the right direction
Trying to imagine what else could be causing similar intermittent symptoms… Fuel pump comes to mind.
