Virus?

Okay so my computer has been on the fritz lately. I’ve been getting random popups even though I have popup blocker, I keep getting an alert saying I might have a blackworm virus and when I click the “X” on the alert it opens up Internet Explorer and takes me to a Microsoft 2006 website to download something to get rid of it. My McAfee virus scan says that there is a PUP found in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and the file name is mljgf.dll but when I go to look for the file it’s not there. Not just that but when I try to remove it, it says that it can’t be removed b/c it’s write protected but I think it’s what’s causing all the problems. Any help?

do u have ad-aware? if so run that that usually gets rid of stubborn viruses, for me atleast i would also download spybot search and destroy and run that too. what anti-virus software do u have?

boot in safe mode, then delete the file, then run anti-virus. Hopefully that will fix the prob

that dont always work though i have had some where it wouldnt

format c: /s

only do that when you get tired of trying any of the other suggestions.

I think that is Internet Optimizer. Do this:

Go to: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
Download HiJackThis.
Unzip the download. If you don’t have an unzipping program, you can get one from here: http://www.winzip.com/downwzeval.htm
Run the application
Do “system scan and log”
When the notepad file opens up. CTRL-A or click on Edit -> Select all
Copy or CTRL-C
Paste in this thread or CTRL-V.

Pretty much this will display all network related programs and running processes on your machine. If there is spyware, it will come up, but I think you have Internet Optimizer. Download the fix from here if you are extremely Lazy: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxNetOpt.exe

Nice, thanks guys

what? Something worked? That Symantec program fixed it or did you do a fdisk like Rick stated?

fdisk? He suggested format, not fdisk.
