Fusion is rock solid for me as well. better off paying for the license than frustrating yourself with free junk.
I have a lab with 2 fairly large servers including an ESXi server, I run managed switching etc… I don’t care much about cost when I feel I need something. Setting the “free junk” stuff aside, what are you doing that Vbox couldn’t handle? It’s an honest question, maybe you’re doing something I’d like to look into and I’ll switch to Fusion/VMWare workstation. Saying something sucks or is junk just because…that holds no water with me.
Mostly it’s just the bugs. USB Support has been hit or miss since day 1 and was my largest gripe always. Other than that, it’s just all the random little things that seem to break with every release.
If every other time I use it, I have to spend 30 minutes google’ing my issues to find 10 page bugtracker discussions where the developers refuse to admit that something is a problem, then I’m going to stop using it. And I am a huge proponent of open source software. I use open source A LOT for both production services as well as small projects and for testing… Virtual Box just doesn’t make the cut for me.
edit: Also, incase anyone hasn’t figured this out by now, any open source project that Oracle buys out is bound to turn into a pile of shit.
Fair enough, I’ve never suffered those issues myself or I’d surely not be using it. My fairly basic use has involved snapshots, expanding partitions, assigning a new UUID, cloning a machine…no issues. I don’t do a ton with USB but the versions from the past few years seem to work well for me, unlike the older versions. Their documentation/support does suck and they deny any issue it seems, luckily I haven’t needed much from them.
