VW owners, help me decide. 1.8t downpipe

Ok, so I got time today to bring my car into the shop (A.S.S). They threw it on the lift for me and we took a look at my exhaust to find my exhaust leak. Turns out its my flex pipe is broke … sooooo , i need to order a new downpipe.

I just want everyones opinion on what downpipe i should go with. Right now im looking at the 42dd, 3" with the 2.5" adapter (no cat). Anyone have any feedback on this?

also , if one of you has an aftermarket dp laying around , let me knowww

The 42 DD downpipes are really nice. and the guys at 42 are awesome as well. The 42 downpipes are available in both a modular and one piece design for the 1.8t engine. I think the one piece race (catless) dp is like $250 or something. The only downside is that they arent stainless. however, you can get a ceramic coating for a little extra. but that takes about 2-3 weeks to get done.

also if you go catless, youll need to run a stage 2 ecu upgrade to avoid cel.

cant I just run a o2 spacer to avoid the cel?

I know that will work with a high flow cat, but Im not 100% sure on using it with a catless dp. Its only a $40 part lol, worth a shot. do you have any ecu software already on the car?

yeah sorry … GIAC, 93 oc

EbAy 3in… Best 100$ you’ll spend on the car… Then stack a couple spark arrestors and no cel

3 inch downpipe and a 2.5 inch exhaust

this

already have a 2.5" milltek exhaust

as for the ebay dp , really? I donno if i trust that … why would you recommend it? I mean yeah , $100 , not bad. But if its shit, i almost rather spend the extra $150 ando go with something i know if good quality.

milltek is great stuff. 2.5 sounds cash and isnt super noisy like 3 inch.

eBay dowipipes are legit… I’ve seen them first hand… It would be stupid not to get one!!!

fitment wise , i dont see an option for a 2.5 adaptor. I just see the one for stock

for the ebay dp?

yeah , i dont wanna have to weld or cut anything. If i was to get the $100 ebay dp , they all seem to go from 3" to 2". I would want a 3" to 2.5". I dont mind trying an ebay dp , shit for $100… why the hell not, i just rather find one that fits.

If you want some serious info on it just search on vortex shit is everywhere

Well, i went ahead and ordered one off of ebay for 89 bucks. The end that connect to my exhaust is gonna have to be stretched but i figured why the hell not. The seller has great feedback and after reading a bunch on vortex , i figured … why not

as soon as i receive the dp ill take pics and write up a review.

still a lil sketch about it but for 89 bucks… i guess its worth a shot.

do you know who makes it? hopefully its not SSAutochrome

no idea, ordered this one. Seems legit

i ran an eBay DP for the first 2 years i had my GTI. Revo stage 2 software, no cat, NO CEL, TT exhaust. car ran just fine… i had no issues with the DP at all. just make sure you buy a NEW OEM gasket for it.

yeah , thats the plan
