I think the article points out the fact that Honda which made a name for itself on small reliable engines in light cars, now has an oversized mid sized car that does not get great mileage.
The Malibu for the past 10 years was known for the old persons styling with a sluggish powertrain. The design has been updated and provided a decent powertrain.
