This is also the reason why hydrogen is not an alternative fuel. It is simply a mode of energy transport, just like electricity. You can’t “mine” or “pump” it. It doesn’t exist naturally anywhere for you to just go get it and spend it. You have to make it.

Gasoline is not mined or pumped either.
It is processed/refined using other energy as well.
So it is really no different except that over time we have found efficient ways to convert oil to gas.

And to stem off of this–a fuel cell is a lot more energy efficient than IC…

And by the time you account for the hydrogen creation, distribution, storage and compression I’d be willing to put good money on it being much worse for the planet than driving a normal gas powered car. Fuel cells where the hydrogen was created and compressed using solar, wind or even nuclear would probably be pretty clean but driving an FCX today is probably about the same as using an Excursion as your single occupancy commuter car.

We had that during the 80s, when a bunch of nuclear plants were proposed and then gasoline became cheap once again.

I took a ride in a fuel cell Equinox and was impressed by the drivetrain. What a rinky dinky car they decided to put it into, though…

All I was saying was the FCX is a pretty stupid vehicle choice TODAY because we don’t have an efficient way of getting the hydrogen to power it. The choice is even worse if people make it based on the advertising of “it’s completely green and gives off nothing but clean water” while ignoring the the fact that they hyrdogen had to come from SOMEWHERE.

Lets put some money into this:
