Ya I am thinking it would be awesome instead of having to stream from my laptop and trans code to my PS3.
It would only be a matter of time before someone redoes the firmware on this thing. Its sweet you can actually manage files on the hard drive and see other network shares with the box so you can copy files from a laptop/desktop to the connected USB drive.
EDIT: They already hacked the shit out of the normal WD TV. Imagine a all in one box to download torrents on. Lol. http://wiki.wdtv.org/doku.php

yes, the smb server would sit on the network. The WD Live would be able to stram data from that server.
The only thing that really scares me about the popcorn hour is support. It seems like a really low key company. I also visited their forums and saw that there were people out there that seemed to be encountering bugs. I don’t really have faith in them getting fixed.

If I didn’t have a media box already setup the way I like it, I probably would have gone ahead and just bought the PH. Just couldn’t see spending the money on something from an unknown company…especially something that is quite difficult to pull off well.
maybe jay will chime in, his seems to be doing ok so far.
