Wexford Starlite Car Cruise joins US Postal Service to unveil new stamps

Officials from the Wexford Starlite Car Cruise are pleased to announce that the area’s most popular weekly cruise has been selected as the site for its regional unveiling of the country’s newest series of postage stamps.

The United States Postal Service has chosen the Starlite Car Cruise in part because of its sheer size and its popularity among car enthusiasts of all kinds.

The latest offering from the USPS, titled “America on the Move: ‘50s Sporty Cars” captures American’s love for the automobile in a time in this country’s history when our bond with our cars was perhaps strongest.

Please join us as we continue the Postal tradition of raising public awareness by paying tribute to five cars chosen to showcase the remarkable vehicles of the 1950s, several of which will be on site at the cruise for the unveiling.

WHO: U.S. Postal officials include Pittsburgh Post Office Operations Manager Tim McIntyre and Wexford Postmaster Jim Hughes. Cruise officials include Kenneth Behr and JR Kerr and cruise publicity director Jim Zufall

These five commemorative stamps feature the sporty look of American cars designed in the 1950s—a decade marked by post-World War II euphoria and economic prosperity. They include a:
• 1952 Nash Healey,
• 1953 Chevrolet Corvette,
• 1953 Studebaker Starliner,
• 1954 Kaiser Darrin, and a
• 1955 Ford Thunderbird.
Referring to photographs of each car and his own cache of landscape images for the stamp backgrounds, artist Art Fitzpatrick has rendered each stamp in meticulous detail. Fitzpatrick was once a car designer and a long-time advertising designer and illustrator for General Motors. Some of the stamps were modeled after cars in existence today.
We at the Wexford Starlite Car Cruise are thrilled to join forces with the US Postal Service in releasing this newest series of postage stamps that will appeal to stamp collectors and car enthusiasts alike.

Officials of the Wexford Starlite Car Cruise still need cars to help with this presentation. If you or someone you know has any of the cars listed above, please contact us via our website www.starlitecarcruise.com and use the email link to contact us. Each car representing one of the stamps will have preferred parking at the front of the lot right next to the stamp unveiling area.
