I’d really like to do some charitable atuff like that around the holidays. A number of years ago a few of us on SON got together and picked up a crew of less fortunate kids and drove them to a CFL game game and back. They really enjoyed it.

I was given lots of cool stuff as well. Great day
i gave some pretty serious scottish and italian cashmere scarves to a number of my colleagues and their wives, a couple watch winders, some authentic Rolex polishing cloths, blu-ray players, garmin GPS’s and bought my wife a mini-van and gifted her car to my mother since hers was on the way out.
doesnt compare to that 6 year old girl though, that is some serious christmas spirit there.
The wife and I went all out as usual on the kid but agreed to keep it a very small xmas between us because we’d rather put the money toward our basement home theater/library remodel.
Our house has been full of good friends and family since Friday and that’s way better than a bunch of crap we don’t need anyway.
Got a couple things, bought my rents a new TV to replace their 15 year old CRT and made them toss their 80’s era console entertainment center monstrosity.
Wifey and I don’t exchange gifts, we like to take a vacation instead.
Gave the wife clothes. Wife gave me tickets to Lewis Black at the Seneca Niagara in January. Gave the father in law a logitech harmony universal remote because my mother in law is typically reduced to tears by trying to watch TV in her own house. My parents gave us cash that we used for a new lense for our SLR. The kid got some toys. Slide, crawling tunnel, kid-sized amish built table and chairs from my parents, etc.
Pretty typical Christmas. Nothing too heartwarming or exciting. Though this thread is inspring. The Christmas spirit has been fizzling on me the last few years. Doing a little more giving might fix my problem.
got mostly clothes and stuff like that…bought the g/f a telephoto lens for her nikon D3100 which pretty much blew her away. Got my uncle(we do secret santa) a verizon helicopter he can fly using his droid, he’s pretty excited about it lol.
I got a kick out of how the things I received as gifts now are pretty much the exact opposite of what I got when I was a kid, and I couldn’t be happier.
Got houseware items. Cologne. Ugg Slippers and some game used NHL, autographed memorabilia.
Gave gift cards to pretty much everyone (too hard, seeing as I’m not very thoughtful and everyone has everything they need/want) and some stupid expensive limited edition Michael Koors watch that made me cringe when I bought it.
Agreed, my personal favorite is tossing in a pork shoulder with some spices and a can of root beer before I go to work, delicious pulled pork ready when I get home.
