Wheels and Tires

So, where is the best place in Edmonton to get new wheels and tires?

Some criteria before your answer…

They must have a good selection or able to source nearly any wheel / tire combination. They must understand the enthusiast market, i.e., they aren’t assholes.
They need to know everything there is about fitting tires and wheels in relation to things like brake calipers, coil overs, etc.

A 780 member did a writeup on some tire shops in the city when he was shopping for some steelies & rubber. Couldn’t hurt to check it out and see what he came up with.

your best bet is to buy wheels online, you will save a fortune

This would make perfect sense if I was not such an idiot when it comes to selecting tires/wheels that are not stock size.

Do yourself a favour and do a little research to figure out how the sizing works. Its very very easy once you understand that much, as well as how offset works.

Thanks for the information. I do understand the whole wheel / tire sizing basics however. Let me put this another way. Sometimes ya just gotta put the weels on the car to see if there is clearance. That is sort of hard to do by ordering on the internet or dealing with a shop that is not ‘sensitive’ to the enthusiast market and won’t work with you. I do know that most won’t mount the tires unless you buy them but there is some grey area there if they are senstive to our enthusiasts crowd.

I was just hoping for a lead on a few shops in town that are good to deal with.

You could always try Fulblown or if you don’t mind Calgary, Speedtech or Autodream may be able to help you.Goodluck with the hunt.

Thanks for the leads.

Cheers! :drinkers:

I will solve the problem.

The biggest tire width you can fit, without modifying the fender, on a 9JJ, 22mm offset wheel is 255.

17x9 wheels should be fit with 255/40R17.

18x9 wheels should be fit with 245/40R18 or 255/35R18. Neither are ideal.

245/45R17 is stock V-SpecII tire size, but I think that is on a 8JJ width wheel.

Changing total air volume will change ride quality. More air, smoother ride. Less air, harsher ride. Your rim size should be determined by your brake size and assuming you have stock brakes Dave you will only require a 17inch rim.

Hope this helped you out.

Thanks Damien.

I had 255/40R17 on the other GTR I had. The wheels were hideous however. What about offset to clear stock calipers or the V-Spec Brembos? Still 22mm? Depends on the wheel?

Still looking for recommendations for shops in town.

Bolt Pattern? 5 x 114.3?

stock brembos on the v-spec’s arn’t all that much bigger. +22 would be fine.

5 x 114.3 is what you need.

Every wheel is different but as soon as you get into the upper ends such as rays or work the inside clearance is the same for a 17x9.

I go to Tire Village on Argyll road. We have been dealing with them for many years. Ask for AL and tell him Anthony sent you and your part of the nissan group. They don’t have a huge display but they are very thorough and have good prices. He can source pretty much anything you need. :drinkers:

I had bought mine from Karbz here in St Albert. He let me see how they looked on my car before I bought them. I was happy with that!!

Karbz imports illegal cars  IMO I’d stay away from that.

And you speed…they are both illegal.

Whooooo cares!! we are talking about tires not s15’s

PS: Trail Tire on Fort Rd. Is where i got my tires from. :thumb Ask if they give discounts for car clubs and they will give you onet.

Ya but he’s up front about it!! He never lied that it wasn’t!! He said that they had an opportunity to bring it in " LEGALLY" so they did!! I’m not gonna go into details of how it was brought in. I will deal with the again!! I deal with Bruno or Brad the owners directly tho!! they had a guy in there before that wsan’t too friendly!!

I second that. I have bought like 4 sets of tires and 1 set of wheels from them and i will continue to go there.

1010tires.com is a good place too. they are out of bc and there is no customs or anything on their products. Cheap shipping too. They can hook you up for really cheap. Check it out.
