Working on specing one out Nolan. I’ll be right with you.
Yea, I planned on building a pc, but I need something now (laptop just isn’t cutting it anymore). And having a dell account just makes it’s much easier.
Thanks man!!
I set one up damn near identical to this one… and even substituted the 560 Ti and it came out to around 750
What are you using the machine for dude? Could build one even cheaper if you dont do anything really intensive thatll still kick ass
WHEN THE FUCK DID THE PRICE OF HARD DRIVES SKYROCKET??? WD Black 1TB now $200+??? WTF!
One of the only manufactures of specific hard drive internals (like the heads) was right in the center of the Thailand flood. Who knows when they will coem back down.
Lots of photo/video/music editing. So, some intensive stuff lol
Processor and Ram are going to be the 2 big things then… you can slack off on the video card qutie a bit
I’d stay Intel based for sure… and 12GB of ram should be more then enough… but i’d do 16 anyways… DDR3 is so damn cheap now mine as well stuff as much as you can in there
Intel i7 2600K is about as good as your gonna get on the intel side withotu stepping up price A LOT
AMD’s are great for the price, but honestly since sandbridge have taken a big fall on their face, even AMD’s overclocked to the edge can barely stack up to even an i5 2500k
I say that this computer, although Dell is a good deal. I just speced out this PC as close as possible with legit OS and everything and I came out more then this as seen below. I did put a 1TB Hd instead of 500gb because get real, that’s not enough. And I put 16GB of memory because I have no idea how Dell is putting 12GB of memory in a PC that is dual channel!?? WTF. They have 4GB on one channel and 8GB on the other. Dumb.
I also forgot to add a wireless mouse/keyboard set.
Also, here comes my mac ploy. Buy an iMac. I LOVE mine. Especially for image/video editing.
If you wanna save a couple more bucks get the Rosewill Challenger case isntead, i built a few systems with it, its similar to that antec and is suprisingly good quality, allows routing of cables behind the side door… and its 45 bucks IIRC… has teh huge fan on the top etc… screwless bla bla bla
Everything else looks good to me… Not a big fan of gigabyte boards but that has to do more with my own experiances with overclocking etc, but leaving shit alone it would be fine…
I really appreciate the help guys, +rep to both of you.
500GB definitely isn’t enough, I think I’m gonna get a second 1TB drive later on. And like I said before, the setup I made include a 24" LED screen so I think that’s a decent deal with everything else. I’m gonna bump the ram up to 16GB and place my order
iMac!! Lol
Hahaha, I thought about it, but I’m just so comfortable with PC’s. And an iMac with these spec is like twice the price lol
I think I’m just gonna go with the Dell. I realize its not the BEST, but it’s not too overpriced, I never really had problems with them, and I can just buy it on my account and pay like 40 a month lol
Are you getting the company discount?
I think so, it doesn’t seem to be much though. Like 2% off lol
If you, or anyone here wants to build a super sweet desktop you need this case;
I have two for sale, cheap! BNIB :lol
If you can, spring for the Dell Ultrasharp monitors as well, will give you much better color accuracy and contrast then most “cheaper” monitors… theres deff better monitors out there but keeping it with dell as you have the account.
IDK how much of a difference the “premiere” color ultrasharps have… but if your doing photo/video editing, you really are going to want a decent monitor.
Shit my old 20.1" ultrasharp I use as one of my secondarys was fucking 750 bucks 6 years or so ago… still think it looks pretty damn good, but i know a few people who do web design that have new 30" Ultrasharps and an Apple Cinemas and its fucking amazing. Theres also one “off” brand if you will… its a really legit monitor but its some oddball brand thats really really good. I’ll see if I can dig it up, its on my old partitions favorites
Editing raw images on a “cheaper” monitor just doesn’t make sense to me.
Oh and FWIW, AMD IS THE BEST or I or whoever really could order your shit and build it before you get it from Dell… GENERALLY* when you order something off the site like that, thats not off their outlet… it takes a few weeks to get “built” and shipped out
and order from newegg is a day out and a few hours to build it.
And you can finance at newegg too!
What he said. I only NewEgg if it’s for me. I bought my GF’s Dell a couple hours ago at BestBuy but normally I only use NewEgg.
