Where they at???

Moving back home in a couple months and thought it’d be helpful to know of any tuner shops (if any) operating in toronto. If anyone knows of a good shop for nissans/imports let me know. Will prolly need work for anything from engine swap to body work. Maybe we could get a list together of what shops are good for whatever…might be a big help to a lot of us…holla back if u know somethin!

Aright i’ll keep doing some research of my own as well…thanks for lookin up dude.

there’s also SPI in newmarket.

Since this thread is asking about shops it just came to me, is there a big difference between a professional shop that does mods than to your top local mechanic who is well known?

for example if i wanted to get an engine swapped, what would be the difference if i went to my regular mechanic who specialised in engine rebuilding and tranny work, compared to those branded type professional shops who do mods?

I’m always reluctant to go to these branded type professional shops thinking it may cost me too much, but i noticed my regular mechanic is not cheap either, he also has a laithe machine and engines all over the shop, even the name of the shop is Auto Engineers but regarded as a regular mechanic but they seem to do excellent work.

Thanks… and sorry for going off topic.

^^^its all good dude…and not too far off topic. what i’m really looking for are local shops, of any kind really, that offer some level of proficiency when dealing with the types of products and builds that are associated with the drift world. I just thought that if we had a thread with a list of locally recommended places to check out it’d help us all out loads.

And thanks for the suggestions guys…anyone else out there got a shop they like going to??? let us know! :GH

i understand your point, but these guys, work on all imports, domestics and european cars, they can strip the engine down bare and know where a 1mm spring goes just by looking at 4 different engines lying around.

I guess i was trying to ask would it be better to go to someone who did a 100 SR swaps or someone who does 200 engine/tranny rebuilding and transplants or swaps of oem motors off all makes a month.

Just becasue a shop does 200 engine replacements a month doesnt necessarily mean theyve ever swapped in an SR before. Doesnt mean they dont have the skills, they just dont have the experiance. Remember its a custom job that requires custom work. Taking it to a place like SG whos been around and knows the engines and done the swaps before would make for a more reliable install. Lets face it, I doubt the place your contemplating on takeing your car has ever customized an sr harness to fit in a ka- chassis. Places that specialize in that kind of thing just already know how to do it properly…its all about experiance

the difference i’ve noticed is in the way the tech thinks. most of the regular licensed techs are great at diagnosing problems, they plug in the OBD scanner, find a bad sensor, check it with an ohm meter, and so on. they have a series of procedures that they follow to narrow down the problem until they have found the most absolute conclusion possible.

someone who deals with performance modifications on the other hand, has the ability to see the big picture, they have an understanding of flow rates, tuning options, basically all the physical forces acting inside the motor. the same idea can be applied to the rest of the car as well.

when you go looking for a perfomance mechanic, tell them you want to make your car faster. if they’re good, they will most likely respond, “what is your application?” because they know that what’s good for a drift car, wont suit a track car, or a drag car, street car, etc.

personally, i hate letting anyone touch my car, but that’s just me. I also have black fingernails and no social life or free time :stuck_out_tongue:

^^^lol, true, though when im ready i’ll ask one of you guys for a recomendation swap shop that can do the job nice.

thanks.

thanks for the posts guys…kinda off topic but what about graphic shops for decals? i know adding crazy stickers is kinda rice but a few tasteful ones can really bring a package together…so does anyone know of any good shops which they’d recommend???
