Where to mount transmission crossmember???

What are the ‘rules’ when it comes to positioning an engine/transmission into a car??? I need to mount brackets for the transmission crossmember in a 1955 Chevy. This is a custom application so I don’t have any factory dimensions to reference.

I did a quick sketch below with some visual description of what I’m working with:

*I’ve heard conflicting theories on whether or not the engine (1) should be level to the frame (2) or to the ground (3). The frame on the '55 has a slight rake forward due to the way the suspension is set up.

*Should the engine be level to the ground, or the frame in this instance? knowing this will determine where the transmission crossmember mounts on the frame rail (4) and will thus determine the driveshaft angle (5).

*Does this make sense? Is my question clear enough???

i think it should be mounted with less then 3 degress of angle on each u joint. you might have to clocking the rear end to do this. but that would be my thought
