Which hood looks best? Have a hard time deciding

#1

BMW OWNERS UNITE!

Err…

What those two said.

I may do option 3 (mainly because their fit and finish is supposed to be perfect) but I don’t really care for the louvers either. It is a functional ram air system though

or just do a stock 05

I do sort of like the look of the first one too in a retro kind of way (mold an oil pressure gauge or something into the drivers side of the hood), but it’s a little over the top

Couple more views of #5 from different angles…

But FWIW - mine took almost 5 weeks to get - didn’t think fiberglass was that hard to make. I almost wish I got the CF one instead.

And FWIW - Gravana makes the OEM-style '05-'06 in CF, too.

thanks for that link  Not too bad of a price either considering how much parts can be for these cars.

How did your hood fit? Any issues? Do you notice any vibration at higher speeds?

Hood fits “okay”. Mounted it myself. It doesn’t have those spots for the little adjustable rubber bumpers in the front corners (probably could have drilled some, but I didn’t want to crack anything). And as it sits, when it gets warm, it curls up some (you can see it a little in the pic by the headlight).

And it does have some vibration at ~90+… other than that, it’s ok.

IMHO, the biggest PITA was relocating the washer nozzles to the wipers. Gravana sends you some wet-arm nozzles off of a Grand Am, but I’ve found that the multiple-nozzle setups from a GM minivan work better.

Edit: but having installed both hoods (this one, and a stock '05), I can tell you this one is MUCH lighter.

Stock. Or #5. DEF NOT 4.

BTW - this one’s not quite exactly the same, as there are notches for the grilles (a la the new G8).

And if it matters, I’ve got a stock '04 hood sitting in my garage, if you’ve run out of options.

#5 looks ok if you do more than just the hood like traumadog did with his Monaro conversion but I think it’s going to look out of place if that’s the only thing you change. All the lines on the GTO are rounded and you’re going to add a square vented hood. It will look bastardized.

Stock 05 for reference:

Hmm… just snooping around, #5’s molds may have been trashed - so you might want to call Gravana to check if they still make it (even though it’s still on their website).

But here’s what it looks like with the Poncho nose:

later model scooped stock hood

^ Pretty much confirms my fear about it looking out of place.

is the emblem on #5 the original GTO badge?

Stock

no, it’s a holden badge from a monaro

they all suck

seeing those other pics of #5 i’d say go with that

I like the factory-late hood, how JayS has it. Still has some attitude but something you could live with.

#1 is very old-school Pontiac - on the '69 Goat:

'68 'Bird:

wish they made more/better aftermarket hoods for these cars.

I’m still thinking about number 1, I think it would look better in person. It would need the gague though (along with the front bumper) EDIT: damn you tom lol

I really like this one, but I believe it was custom/hand made

I think Stock looks best.
