Well ill start off by saying this was not my fault at all 100%… Well it was a nice day outside so my friend and I decided to take the Vette out for a crusie with the top down. The shifter needed adjusted because it was having a little of a hard time getting into 3rd gear. We were going towards Cal U on the back roads… the car was driving so nice… it was just a perfect cruise… until… We came to a flashing red stop lamp (if anyone goes to cal you know what im talking about), when we came to the stop, I heard a slight slight noise for a split second, I thought it was just the tranny because I just shifted out of 3rd when comming to the stop. So I made the right towards the university still on a back road. I was comming up upon Highpoint bar on the top of the hill looking down on Cal. There was a cop hiding on the left (thank god he saw everything)… as soon as I pass the cop I hear BAAAAAAMMMMM!!! I was like WTF just happend… here the fucking right front wheel & tire blew off the car !!! The wheel blew off a chuck of the RT FT fender (which turns out to be a 1 piece front end!!!) the wheel passes us up blows off the road, takes out a mailbox, continues to fly down a hill into the woods! I was ridding on the rt ft rotor skidding to a stop. I was in TOTAL amazement to what just happend to this $100,000 car!!! I was going 35mph the officer said, the speed limit was 35 on that road, so I was all good none of this was my fault. Next came the dreaded call to the house “Dad the fucking wheel just flew off the corvette and I almost totaled it into the hillside + trees + telephone pole on the side of the road” He was like dont worry ill be up with the flatbed, I know what happend! So heres what turned out when wrong. My dad put the original spinner wheels on the car. Instead of bolting the wheel to the studs, there is an original adaptor plate that bolts onto the studs, which has about a 2 inch hollow single shaft comming out of it, the wheel has one 2 inch hole in it instead of 5 for the original bolt pattern. The wheel slips over the 2 inch shaft and there is a single spinner that has reverse threads on it which you tighten with your hand I guess… they make knock off wheels which once you slide the wheel on the adaptor there is a single lugnut that holds the wheel to the adaptor, then the spinner just covers the lugnut… but my dad has to have original… these wheels were noted for their ability to come loose from day 1. Thank god it didnt happen to my dad and mom comming home from a car show Saturday night on 43 going like 90mph… my mom even said to my dad she heard a noise in the front end that night… my dad thought it might have been the wheels, but never checked / tightened them… also he never re-tightend the spinner from the last time they installed the wheel… The rotor kept the exhaust / side pipes / oil pan / front bumper, suspension, etc… off the road, so the only damage was the rotor & the fender… which is definatly bad enough, but it could have easily been totaled or I could have been dead without a seatbelt and the top off… Im just glad a cop witnessed the whole thing… and my dad is not mad one bit about what happend… it would have happend to my, my brother, him, or my mom… im just glad it happend to me and not them… and the car is ok! Crazy hua?

GOD damn!!! glad ur ok. my Dad woulda killed me regardless of who’s fault it was if that was his vette. He told me a story before about that happening with those knockoff wheels

that sucks he would still kill you considering it would have been HIS fault for not tighting his wheels & his fauly for hearing a noise and not checking it at the end of the ride… but whatever… noone got hurt, he even told one of the guys at the shop “Mark is all shook up about it, but it honestly does not bother me, I was hesistant about those wheels at 1st and look what happend it was my fault for not checking them” So when the guy in the shop told me that today I was really relieved, my dad even told me when it happend he was not mad at all and it was noones fault, it would have happend to him if he was the driver and thank god it didnt happen to him and my mom on 43 going 90mph!!! It might have been a different outcome than me wrecking it. Im just glad im not dead!!

lol… yeah it is rough… even tho it took 6 years to do a complete restoration + $100,000 later… it was finished for a month… then wrecked… its a TOTAL shame what happend… and I feel even worse that my dad has to pay to fix it, but I think he said he is turning it into insurance because with classic cars somehow the rate wont rise. The cop didnt write me a ticket or anything he was being cool as hell… I was basically running the show at the accident, I was directing traffic, etc… lol he was just amazed the car had a factory 427 4 speed in it… and the fact THE WHEEL JUST FLEW OFF!! That night it took a lot of :shaggy: to calm me down… im just glad my dad is truely not mad… now if I woulda did a :burnout: and hit a tree or something… then i would have been packing my bags.

well it must suck to have a dad / family like yours… my family is not greedy about materalistic items… he cares more about his KIDS which cannot be replaced than being selfish and careing more about his vehicle which can be replaced, I guess your family would rather have the car than his kid. I drive his cars whenever I want… hell his cars are MY cars, that were built to be handed down to my brother and I… so why wouldnt he let me drive it, I am a responceable adult… you know I knew I would have someone write a smart ass comment about this… like I said “Hey dad can I go fuck up your “big money vette”??” Your a fucking moron… please tell me how it was my fault for a wheel falling off while going the speed limit in front of a cop?? Please tell me why after my dad tells me its his fault for not checking the wheels once he heard a noise in the front end and knew the problems with the wheels previously, etc… as you can see others replys… saying how they are glad im ok, etc… then look at your reply… go buzz around in your low HP supercharged weedwacker sounding Honduh Vtek. Your the kind of person that makes forums like these into drama centers
