I’ll likely expand to a larger dust collection system in the next year or so, I don’t think the shop vac will be able to provide nearly the required CFM for some of my larger tools(or at least the tools that create larger chips). They make a larger unit made of steel that you can mount to a larger drum with 4 inch ports.
I also recently made a shop air filter with an 800CFM duct fan. It’s basically a box with cleanable furnace filters on the face of it. It does a great job of pulling dust out of the air when sanding, and was a lot cheaper than the commercially available units. Only cost about $120 in parts, and a couple of hours to build. Similar commercial units were 2-3x’s the price. It’s made a huge difference when finish sanding. way less cleanup (I have a lot of tools on pegboard near my sanding area)
This is where I got the idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP8EYZvgjd0
