When i was working at American Axle, they overpaid me by $16K after I had quit there. They ended up only asking me to pay $1500 back.

The place I was working for was going out of business, on my final check they direct deposited the money into my account, and they gave me a real check (signed by the owner) instead of the “this is not a check” statement.
They must have fucked up, I kept the 500 bucks or whatever for a weeks work.

Nope. I have had it happen to me twice. Both times, I said something. The first was due to a raise that my boss forgot to tell me about. He was impressed that I came forward.
The second time was a HUGE MISTAKE. Like an extra 40% added to my salary. I’m sure I would have had to pay that one back at some point.
If you don’t fess up, you are stealing, and you are no better than the bastards who break into cars and steal radios, radar detectors, GPSs, and change.
i say tell them…it happened to me and when i told them they were really impressed let me keep the money for being honest and gained alot of respect and since then i have needed to take off a few days and other shit and they never question any of my reasons for things because i have proved to them i am an honest person…the money isnt worth it and the respect and honesty you show them will pay off the money you are giving back and then some in the future if you plan on staying there
