Would you switch over to E85?

assuming that you could actually get it around the area, would you convert your car to use e85? I saw that a guy in chicago was paying 2.20 gal for it… not bad for 100-105 octane fuel considering what we’re paying for 93 octane petrol.

I think I could deal with slightly worse fuel economy (and more power) for the tradeoff of taking money out of the pockets of oil companies.

No. I like paying as much as possible to fuel my vehicle.

Yes, the applications of it in boosted cars is quite nice.

I wonder what it would take (short of opening a station) to get it around the area.

If my car could run on it, I’d use it.

I certainly wouldn’t spend a bunch of money converting my car to run on it, probably voiding my warranty, to save around $1 a gallon.

Right now my GTO averages 16 mpg (gotta find a commute where I get over 35mph). At 10000 miles a year, at $3 a gallon, that’s $1875/yr for gas.

At $2, that’s $1250. So per year I’d save $625. I doubt I could convert my car for that much, and I certainly wouldn’t save enough to want to void my warranty.

So basically, if you want to run E85, buy a car that’s ready to run it from the factory.

I would consider it. But no way in hell I’m going to be an early adapter. When it’s available at nearly every gas station, I’ll consider it. It’s already a PITA trying to find 93 octane in Canada, try finding E85.

what mpd said

Remember e85 makes your vehicle get worse gas mileage than regular gas.

So that offsets pretty much any savings.

yea 93 FTW, if my car was boosted id consider it, i cuolda ran it on the tib as i didnt have a stock fuel system in teh car anymore, but id rather spray methanol

Oh Yes…

^^^Nice I can swap over my wagon aaaannd my GP!

Well, it depends on what else I need to swap over. :stuck_out_tongue:

Since My ranger is flex fuel, I would run it. It is good for boost, so I would use it in the mustang also. I can’t believe E85 isnt around all that much.

bio diesel would be a better option. and make your own. not that i would, im just saying

yes, but on vechiles such as GM’s Flex fuel vehicles, does gas mileage drop when switching to e85?

and how would one combat the high octane of the ethanol fuel?

Higher compression and stronger spark?

Boost will love the E85.

Yes it will drop, same for any FFV.

i would if i could run on it without a problem

honestly i wouldnt even care if the price was closer to or more than regular gas, it would feel good to be giving it to someone else.

i feel like, if more ppl start using it, and mass producing it gets better and more effeicient that the prices would probably go down on it
