First off, what do you think?
I am primarily wanting to pick one of these up due to the single cable hookup
of iPod, no external box needed.
Is there any other headunits I should be looking at? I have done quite a bit
of research, but people’s experience with head units are more valuable than
reading just the specifications on a web page.
Anyone have a hookup on this?
I am probably going to pick something up tonight after work.
What I am looking for is a headunit that I can run my iPod through. I am not to sure if I am going to like using the headunit to control the iPod, as I could possibly use the line out signal and just run it into an auxilary port in the back of a headunit.
Is there a cable out there that anyone knows of that plugs into the bottom of the iPod and runs the line out signal to RCA’s so I cna plug it into the back of the headunit?
My brother just got this headunit yesterday, I will be putting it in his ride tomorrow if you want to check it out. The Ipod link cable should be a nice feature, control, charging and being able to conceal the Ipod.
There are many ways you can attach an MP3 to the headunit. I have the alpine CDA 9857 in my car (last years model), with sirius added and I have my dell mp3 hooked via rca’s converting to an AI net cable into the sirius, and thats cool and works great. But if I owned an I pod I would get the new 9856 imho.
One of the reasons I bought the 9857 is because I could change the colors to match the factory lighting…but thats not a big deal in an evo, its come unmatched already :rolljerk:
Note: the lpod link cables seem to be hard to get ahold of right now, crutchfield was all sold out, ended up finding on ebay for a fair price.
Shit, the 9856 can’t be changed color wise? Fuck, I just redid ALL of the lighting in my car to make it match, along with the Defi gages as well. Damn!
I really wouldn’t mind checking it out, where are you?
As for you Mr. ZerODazE, don’t let that happen again. Since my life revolves around the interweb, when you do things like that it really leaves me with a sense of dissatisfaction with my life and I might end up having to see a shrink
because of all the pain you inflicted on me by moving my thread. I will probably not be able to find my thread now, will be uber confused, have to
check into mental rehab and will probably end up hanging myself because you fucked up my chi. Thanks alot, fucker. Oh, and BTW, I won’t let it happen again.
I live in Hamburg if you want to see my brothers 9856, you can see my headunit in my ride at my office is not to far from your work. My office is in the Sheridan Meadows business park.
I’ve got the same headunit Jeller does and am happy with everything but the I-pod interface through the headunit. To scroll through the names is no where near the iPod, it take FOREVER. Other than that,
FWIW Jeller is Super picky about making a mod look like it belongs there (OEM “look”) So this headunit is a really good fit in his ride.
who? mike jones, who? mike jones… lol J/k I dont know why that came to mind but no I dont know her, lots of buildings over here (sheridan meadows south) lots of companies too.

The new one is supposed to be much better, hell they dont even have the box anymore just a cable direct to the headunit  We will see when we put little Jellers in this weekend.
God damn, just looked at the 9856 on another forum for the new subaru, for the exact purpose of running the ipod through it. Hope you dont mind hookin a brother up with a couple installs. Hella horn what… OK if I ever get the car I will stop by, but it looks like Tuesday.
Installed the CD9856 in my bros ride with the new Ipod cable… and Dammmmmmmmm is this sweet, totally the way to go if you have an Ipod IMHO. Seaching is easy and fast, by artist, song, album, whatever and you can do just mixed also and all while charging  its fast too, no delays at all, very nice set up and at a great price too. Just thought I would share.
