Actually, get a better phone. No phone requires a data plan unless you sign a contract and get the phone discounted. What I mean is if you walk in with your own phone, no matter what it is, data is not required. If you get the phone from Verizon, thats a different story. The Samsung is a girls phone if you ask me.
