Im searching for a 1948-1953 ford flathead. IF anyone knows where i could locate one locally that would be great. The block and internals would be fine.
sorry postd in wrong forum. Could MOD please move?
Thank you
Oh man… Good luck finding a good 8BA… If you do find one be prepared to shell out at least a grand for just a good rebuildable core. Be aware (if you aren’t already) of the typical cracks in the block emanating from the water jackets to the head bolt holes. I forget the website, but back some time ago I found a place that had started recasting new flathead blocks. It might be worth some time searching the internet.
In your efforts keep an eye out for the '53 8EQ. They’re rare, but it would make a killer hotrod engine, 337 cubes…

Trust me I know they are a hard find. Thanks for the info on the recasting. I searched but maybe need to search a little harder.
Oh also, do a search for French flatheads… Apparently France exactly copied the flathead for use in their military trucks. As far as I know, they were still building BRAND NEW flatheads into the late '90’s. I guess a surplus of brand new blocks still exists, so that might be another avenue to explore.
Check this out too: http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hdrp_0511_ford_flathead_engine/index.html
It’s the “Ford Flathead Guide of Death” from HotRod magazine. You seem to be knowledgable already, but it may help. It’s a 6 page writeup and the entire last page is just flathead parts sources. Good luck with it!
Found it… Here’s your brand new flathead block:
